602854 2007-10-19 05:43:00 Just a query though, you are aware that xtra doesn't allow you to send using 3rd party smtp servers and that you must send using the xtra smtp server? That appears to have changed since the latest set up balls ups from xtra. I have used a paradise account well on an xtra adsl connection, both in and out. Mind you only tried it once ;) wainuitech (129)
602855 2007-10-19 19:06:00 There appears to be some incompatibility problem with something in Outlook and Xtra which causes a problem with Xtra SMTP and not other ISPs.
There has been no mention of any error codes that might help pinpoint the problem and as well as the normal error messages there is also the ability to turn on SMTP logging.
Info on how to do this at this link.

Why anyone would want to use Outlook especially an old version in a home situation beats me. Outlook is a very complex program and if all the additional options it gives are not required why not use Outlook Express which is perfectly adequate and is easy to setup and configure.
There are of course other mail programs available which are more reliable and easy to use.

For those who want to persevere with fixing Outlook sending problems there is more information at this link.

602856 2007-10-19 20:07:00 If you are with Xtra, then thats not surprising.
Had a customers PC earlier this week, spent over an hour on the phone to xtra, all settings were perfect, tried several that shouldn't have worked - and they didn't . - every possible combo. ( No Contact Manager) Removed all security, fully reinstallled again - no security - No Joy.

Could recieve OK, but would not send. Strange as it was, the only way to get the mail working was to use Outlook Express. Exact same settings worked fine. Reinstalled Office 2003, both from fresh or patched - same problem.
Still don't know if it's extra, or some strange thing with Outlook.

It wasn't just his account either, my outlook 2003, with xtra also wouldn't work, not even on a different PC.

I had the same problem with a friend's computer a while ago - windows mail worked fine, but the exact same settings didn't work in Outlook.
