602351 2007-10-17 09:05:00 Funny how WMG compares a copy of Vista Ultimate ($749?) to a crappy white Mac ($1848).

Also MacBooks are made of aluminum rather than plastic.

602353 2007-10-17 10:49:00 Then why can I still buy a laptop WITH Vista (which is an OS btw) installed on it for around $1200???

Lets make it real clear:
OS (This is the software)
Laptop (This is the hardware)

OS + Laptop = $1200 ($1300 even) < $1848
Use iCalc or something else that Apple supplies to see which is the smaller number.

602354 2007-10-17 10:52:00 but don't the 1200$ lappys only have vista basic? which is not the full os in terms of Vista? so its not 7??$ for it. its less. um, if ya want OS X on non mac hardware, use linux with some apps to make it look like it hehe. Cho (12330)

That would be Vista Home Basic which is the cheaper crippled version of Vista. I am aware that Vista is an OS, Beeswax, I was pointing that out to you in my previous post.
To pre-empt your next useless comment - Microsoft makes money of the software ($768 - Vista Ultimate on a $1200 laptop) while third party hardware makers compete against each other to sell the cheapest PCs and laptops they can while trying to make a profit on the difference.($432 - actual cost of laptop minus the OS , not that I would buy a $432 laptop)

602358 2007-10-18 01:08:00 My one came with Vista Home Premium and thats pretty much everything you'd want from Vista, other than encryption and backup for which I use my own 3rd party software thank you very much. beeswax34 (63)
602359 2007-10-18 01:16:00 Good for you Beeswax, how much is Vista Home Premium on its own? (disk only)
OS X comes with File Vault as standard as well as System Utilities for backups and maintenance.

602360 2007-10-18 01:41:00 Can you tell us exactly why you want to get MacOSX?

Because it's fast, look stylish and simple. I don't know about anything about security or anything like that. Maybe the appearance and interface attract me. And it's cheap for OS itself. Thanks for asking
