602716 2007-10-18 06:45:00 Hi all,

I have a laptop with XP Pro SP2 on it .

The problem is that the logon, logoff and some error ('!' messages) sounds do not play when triggered . All other sounds play fine . Among other places, '!' sounds do not play on MS Office documents when closing and you are prompted to save the doc .

I have tried all the usual options - sound is turned up, sound not muted, tried alternative speakers and headphones, Wave volume is turned up, sound files exist, sound scheme is 'Windows Default',sound drivers installed, tried different sound files, but the sounds will still not play . :badpc: . The respective WAV files play properly in WM Player, PowerDVD and Dell Media Experience .

Sounds played perfectly since I reinstalled Windows XP on the machine (about 9 months ago) . ~3-4 weeks ago I noticed the sounds weren't playing .

Note that, when logging off, the text 'Logging Off' (when the sound normally plays) is displayed for a few split seconds, then Saving Your Settings is displayed .

Any thoughts??

602717 2007-10-18 09:12:00 Can you play the .wav files under the sound scheme preview for each of them?

Cheers :)
