603830 2007-10-21 07:26:00 This time Im having trouble with croping what I want from an image.

Imagine Ive a postcard (landscape) orientated scenic image, and I want to retain the upper 60% of the image.

If I use the Rectangular Marque Tool, despite selecting a Rectangular image on screen, when I replease the mouse, Im left with an image with rounded corners - not what I want.

If I use the Crop tool, I seem to be stuck with a predefined aspect ratio that will only give me a thin horizontal slice of what Im after. I can alter the size of the slice but not its aspect ratio.

If I use the Rectangle tool, I can get a lovely squared off section at the base, but instead of cutting away what I dont want, Im left with a coloured rectangular section.

Now, in Paintshop Pro, when you use the Crop Tool, you define your selection, double click in that selection and you get just what you are after, how can I achieve the same with CS2?

Thanks

John in Mosgiel.

603831 2007-10-21 08:01:00 Hit Enter to Crop your image after highlighting the area with the crop tool
Crop tool is "C" on your keyboard.

603833 2007-10-21 08:29:00 You can edit the crop to to adjust the ratio by toggling the corner points or mid section points. Then hit enter to crop your image. winmacguy (3367)
603834 2007-10-21 15:50:00 The problem being that there are no Horz/Vert center Handles to alter the height/width of the crop area, the only handles that exist are on the corners, leaving me unable to alter its aspect ratio,

John.

Yes there is - if your use Crop Tool, not the Marque Tool. :)

603837 2007-10-21 17:56:00 IF you marquee select and release mouse and you have rounded corners then de-select and up the top change Feather to "0"

If you marquee select with 0 feather you will get exactly what you select. If you want exact selection then zoom in and set some guidelines, you can select exact aspect ratio then. Then choose crop from the Image menu.

If you want to use the cropping tool (Two below the Marquee tool in the toolbox) you can set up exact size by creating a preset. Once Cropping tool is selected go up above the tollbar and you will see an icon of the cropping tool, scroll that down and you will see some presets. By using Width Height and Resolution you can create a size you want then use the small arrow key in the presets menu and add it as a new preset tool.

603838 2007-10-22 01:02:00 How about just use canvas size and type in 60% in the height, move the little arrow thing below so that the centre square is at top-mid and press OK twice. gnail (6819)
603839 2007-10-24 19:36:00 You may be stuck in a tool preset mode. Select the crop tool from the floating palette, then go to the crop tool on the top toolbar and pull down the option menu arrow on the right hand side. click on the little sideways arrow in the circle at the top right hand corner of the drop-down box and Reset the tool options. it should go back to free form cropping. andy (473)
