603306 2007-10-21 10:09:00 I just opened my computer, and it i couldn't find the motherboard model number anywhere. I searched for about 10 minutes, and I am positive it wasn't there. Wardog (6821)
603307 2007-10-21 10:39:00 Would it have anything to do with the fact that I used my friends recovery CD instead of my own one to reformat? Wardog (6821)
603308 2007-10-21 10:58:00 Possibly. Here's my suggestion- Go to PBTech. How much of your time have you wasted compared to what you would have had to pay them? I think this was like the top of page 4, 4 whole pages ago.

Now I know you might want to be Mr. Fixit and not have to wait till Tuesday but like WT said, there comes a stage where you can't do anything else and have to go to someone who KNOWS.

Well, did you recovery disc have drivers on it? If it did, then yes, using someone else's could put the wrong drivers and maybe screw something up bad.

603309 2007-10-21 11:06:00 I can't really go to them, I don't know where they are based, etc. I got this computer from someone else, I payed them to make it from bits and pieces from PBTech, or something like that.

Did MY disc have drivers on it, or the one I used?

I might just pull a kamakaze and reformat and use the proper disc, and follow the instructions in post #50.

603310 2007-10-21 11:23:00 Then take it into any other computer shop. I'm sure theres many in West Auckland. Here's PBTech anyway:

4 Station Rd, Penrose, Auckland, this is also where the head office and wholesale division is.

Why didnt u say u did this in the first place.

Instead of wasting 8 pages and our time.

A recovery CD is for a particular pc, not yours, mine, or anyone else's.

As its based on whats on your mates computer, and if the soundcard / hardware on his computer, isnt on yours, of course nothing will work.

You could bring it to me in Mt Eden. BUT, you'll have to pay me to fix it.

603312 2007-10-21 20:55:00 Eh??

Wasnt the mobo an ASUS A7S8X-MX ?

Original Driver that came with the Motherboard, not the newer version on the ASUS site.

Have a look on PAge 19 of the Manual - As long as it is the right board you will see the model number as Shown Here (www.imagef1.net.nz)

If you want to try and do it yourself, you will need a XP CD - NOT a recovery CD, and the Original Driver CD that came with the motherboard. You should also have YOUR Product Key that came with the XP CD thats required during installiation.

As long as you have all the Original CD's it "should" install OK.

Or better yet, take Speedy up on his offer - he knows what hes doing.
