2007-10-22 22:33:00 | I never had the XP cd, someone made/got the computer for me. I only used my friends recovery CD because he claimed it was an XP disc, but I had one also. When you got the System / software - you mentioned you had the Product key - The sticker. You should have gotten the XP cd With it, a proper recovery CD is totally different. Some big firms like PB tech May have made up a Name brand CD. Places like PC Company ( now shut down) had their own Name Branded XP CD's, they called them Recovery CD's but in fact were only an XP CD with a different Face on the CD. Then you would install the Drivers that came with the Motherboard. A few months back, I worked on a PB Tech PC that came as a "upgrade kit" the customer then purchased a copy of XP OEM ( like what you should have got) and got me to install /set it up. There was a XP CD and the Motherboard CD - NO recovery CD. Heres a usual way to tell if its an actual XP CD or a recovery CD. With the PC on, place your CD in the drive, If its a XP CD after a few moments you should see This Picture (www.imagef1.net.nz) If you dont get this on the screen then its some sort of other CD, recovery CD's normally boot and advise of wiping drives and returning the PC to factory setup etc, Totally different to XP CD. Earlier in the posts you mentioned getting someone to fix it - I'd suggest you do that. Sounds like your friend may not actually know what he has either some how , or its the wrong driver CD for your Motherboard.

2007-10-22 23:45:00 | Yup, PB never supplied me with any recovery CD's at all. Just the XP CD that I bought and a whole host of other ones such as MOBO and TV Tuner etc | beeswax34 (63) | |

2007-10-23 01:15:00 | mm at the risk of getting shot asking this now... ( after reading 12 pages of ever increasing annoyance) I notice on the first page you mention having a soundcard? are you using onboard sound, or a separate plug-in soundcard? If it's separate it would explain all this, because the drivers you've been downloading are for onboard sound. my 2c

One would have hoped We were told it had a separate sound card instead of onboard sound. You are right though,if it did have a sound card installed it would be causing lots of the hassle. I spose that could go for a LAN card also, since that wont install. I personally still think Wardog should take it someone in the area that does know what he/she is doing. Bit hard to "see" things sometimes with out actually having it in front of you - either speedy or myself, or any of the other people who help would prob take one look inside and go - Thats the problem  Question: - will this make post 120 ? :D |

2007-10-23 04:42:00 | Wardog - when you get it fixed, you should post the tech's explination of the problem here - I am curious to know what has managed to elude the mighty collective intelligence of PressF1 :D | Greven (91) | |

2007-10-23 07:35:00 | WT - Yes, that's what comes up when I stick the CD in. Sorry about the confusion. On the actual CD, it says recovery disc, I took a photo of it, it is in this thread somewhere. Yes, it's a plug in sound card I think. HCM - I might just do that, thanks. Sorry about all the hassle lol, computers that don't work piss me off. I should stick to web design. Here it is, this is what came with it. (www.imagef1.net.nz)
