603326 2007-10-22 03:00:00 Remember the on where someone bought a HDD enclosure from TradeMe and then wondered why it wouldn't work when there was no HDD inside??? If those people were here physically, they'd be seriously hurt by now:D You Think ?? :D  wainuitech (129)
603327 2007-10-22 03:47:00 Wainuitech and Speedy:

I've just found this thread and realise that every minute I spent reading it was probably equivalent to an hour of your time yesterday.

I admired your patience for the diagnostic part - and your self-restraint later.

Well done, guys. You're examples of the best of PF1.

603328 2007-10-22 03:52:00 lol well hopefully it doesnt happen again Laura.

Next time, we'll remember to ASK if the person HAS an XP / Windows / whatever CD.

Instead of writing a book, and the person telling us a week later. That they havent got a CD.

603329 2007-10-22 03:59:00 Yeah, good on you guys. I'm just glad I wasn't here when the thread was started, or I would have got roped into it as well!!!! :waughh: I think I first saw the thread when it was just over 1 page long. I made a decision not to post, that turned out to be the best thing I did all week! wratterus (105)
603330 2007-10-22 06:51:00 I'll see if any of my friends have an XP disc.

Thanks for the help and the trouble guys.

Would I be able to use XP pro?

You have to use the CD the corresponds to your product key. If it is an XP home key, you will need an XP home CD & if it is an xp pro key, you will need an XP pro CD (and don't download it - you will get a corporate version that only works with a corporate key)

Download the trial version of everest from www.lavalys.com - it could be handy if you need more help.

603331 2007-10-22 07:04:00 The CD I used was a Home Edition one.

Ah screw it, I'll just reformat.

603332 2007-10-22 07:07:00 And what are you going to use if u dont have a CD??

Put linux on it, at least it's free.
Speedy Gonzales (78)
603333 2007-10-22 07:17:00 I have ubuntu, but my family don't know how to use it, and all the stuff I use, they are windows only.

I'll use MY recovery CD to reformat.

Someone mentioned that I should download a chipset, I can't find that anywhere, where can I get it from?

Sorry for the hassle

603334 2007-10-22 07:34:00 So, why didnt you use your recovery cd before if u had it??

Funny how you said you were going to download XP, but now you're saying you're going to use YOUR recovery cd.

Somehow, I dont think its a recovery CD.

If you or someone made a PC up, and its an ASUS, I've never seen a system with an ASUS mobo, that comes with a recovery CD.

It may come with a CD, (but this has drivers for the mobo), it doesnt come with Windows on it.

Do you KNOW what a recovery CD is??

I dont think this mobo has chipset drivers.

Well the one you said in a previous post doesnt have any.

603335 2007-10-22 07:56:00 Heres what happened;

Computer screwed up

Asked friend for XP cd, he gave me his recovery disc, insisting that it was the XP cd (he still is now, even after everything ive told him that it isn't)

Reformatted, now sound doesn't work

Found MY OWN recovery disc, now I'm gonna reformat using it.

The guy that made it, he is good friends with my mum, he made it from bought parts from pbtech. Which they probably (obviously) sent out a recovery disc for OEM, I also got an OEM Nero CD with it, too.
