605089 2007-10-25 03:25:00 Hi

they say a picture (nigel.geek.nz)is worth a thousand words, unfortunately I couldn't come up with a thousand expletives

I'm pretty sure this isn't right, i gave up after waiting 10mins, and copied the info to my second harddrive that only took a minute or so

This is going to be a real problem so if anyone has any useful suggestions i would appreciate it

edit-------
for some reason I'm getting a 403 error on the image, if you get a 403 error just press refresh

605090 2007-10-25 03:37:00 Youre right that link doesnt work in the latest version of FF.

Even if I refresh the screen.

BUT, works in IE.

Altho, I read recently FF 2.0.0.8, screws Java and Flash up (www.crn.com)

ie: If u use the WGA plugin in FF 2.0.0.8, a few people said it doesnt work.

I tried it, it doesnt work.

I see another update just came out for Vista yesterday (support.microsoft.com)

It may or may not help.

605091 2007-10-25 03:41:00 I've changed the link now, it now points to an html page rather than the jpg

I had issues with all three main browsers, but i am completely up to date as far as vista is concerned

605092 2007-10-25 03:49:00 Now now, wait. This is a problem with Vista's ability or lack thereof to correctly calculate the time it takes to do things like copying/moving files. It will be fixed in SP1 (its very high on the list) and I think you can also get a patch straight from Windows' KB to fix that problem now. beeswax34 (63)
605093 2007-10-25 03:51:00 I have noticed vista can be very slow copying things. I do not know why. I heard there was a bugfix was released where deleting items or emptying the recycle bin or something took a lot longer than it should.

Maybe it's a similar problem?

Thanks for that

It did seem to take a a while probably less than the 10 minutes i said earlier, (can't be completely accurate as i was trying to get my clock to synch at the same time, blasted firewall)

I might try again and see how long it takes, although not right now as they are serving rhubarb and apple crumble and i'm going to get me a piece

hm normally when you mention rhubarb Bruce Buckman appears

605095 2007-10-25 04:05:00 Yep, vista is slower than Xp, but there is one thing you can try - its worked for me a couple of times, just had to locate the article again - ( Knew I should have saved it) so I didn't have to write it out:D

Try This:
Vista gives you a option to set the drive up for quick removal with advanced protection, or sheer performance.

These options can be accessed:

(Right click) my computer >> Manage >> Storage > Disk Management >> ( may install a snap in at this time, takes a few seconds)

Right click on the USB Device >> Properties >> Hardware>>Properties>>Policies.

You have two choices See Here for Choices (www.imagef1.net.nz) Select Enable Advanced Performance.

Should speed it up.

Update: Just timed it with a 85.7 Mb file(s) 35 seconds normal - 25 Seconds on advanced.

OPPS, Pic I showed was the Hard Drive, meant to be the flash drive, same settings

The USB drive is a high speed USB Jetflash Vista Ready Boast Drive.

605097 2007-10-25 04:53:00 nope made no difference

I am currently copying a 515mb directory to my usb key

I started at 6:12 it is now 6:25 and apparently it has copied 7mb across so far.

not looking promising

605098 2007-10-25 05:32:00 Ok, I just moved about 800MB worth of video files to my U3 from my Vista laptop. Took about 3-5 mins or so. beeswax34 (63)
