604640 2007-10-23 22:39:00 The kid is overseas, so for her entertainment, and to make her miss us, I loaded a video on Facebook. Around 5 minutes all up.

First off I compressed it to a .wmv. Size 8Mb. Trouble was Facebook then re-compressed it to their format. Results fuzzy.

So then I attempted to upload the .mpg. 42Mb over a slowish connection took nearly an hour. Router re-set at 40Mb so I lost it.

I'm looking for a file upload manager (separate post) but it would make more sense, for speed and bandwidth, to upload the thing compressed if possible.

Does anyone know what format to use to upload videos to Facebook?

OS=WinXP
Video=Ulead v.10
Upload speed=160 kbps

604641 2007-10-23 22:41:00 Well what format did Facebook change it to??

Did you check the site, to see what formats it accepts?

Most probably be better using something like MSN or Yahoo Messenger.

Send it directly to her. If shes on BB.

604642 2007-10-23 22:53:00 Facebook doesn't say what it encodes it to.

The help file says:
"Unlike photos, the video upload process isn’t always immediate. The video files you upload need to be converted into another format, which can take some time."

and...
"supports almost all video file types. Here's the complete list:

QuickTime Movie (mov)
Windows Media Video (wmv)
AVI Video (avi)
MPEG Video (mpg, mpeg)
Windows Media Video (asf)
MPEG-4 Video (mp4, mpeg4)
Mobile Video (3gpp, 3gp, 3g2)
Matroska Format (mkv)
Flash Player Video (flv)
DVD Video (vob)
Ogg Format (ogm)
Nullsoft Video (nsv)
The aspect ratio of the video has to be between 9x16 and 16x9, and the video cannot exceed the file size or length that the upload page suggests."

Running the mouse over it and checking the status bar merely gives a link to the video.php database file. Not the type of file.

The video is larger than .wmv so is blurry.

604643 2007-10-23 22:58:00 Oh, and reason for not sending it directly to her is that, although I joined because of her, there are a few other family members from various parts of the world on it too.

My cousins and an aunt (my age) also joined due to their travelling kids. We're all feeling our way with it as a means of keeping in touch.

No, I mean upload it to YouTube rather than Facebook. Play to your strengths as YouTube is after all meant for video and Facebook isnt.

604648 2007-10-24 00:27:00 I know what you meant. However Youtube is world wide, facebook selected people. And it is there as a picture link rather than text link so more user friendly.

Just thought there'd be someone round here who had mastered it. I might just have to create something really short and have a play with different formats.

Now to the dentist to think about it.

604649 2007-10-24 00:53:00 Are you able to export it as mpeg4? I noticed that was on the list and it is better than WMV winmacguy (3367)
