605904 2007-10-27 15:11:00 Hello all,

I wondered if anyone could help me get rid of an unwanted program. When I first noticed the program, it was tracking activity on my computer. The program is "message center" from rhapsody.com I did remove the program from my cookies and by using the Windows 'add/remove' program. I then deleted the icon on the desktop. I even blocked the Web site. However, now the "message center" appears on start up. So, I went to the start up files and I cannot see anything related to this program to delete. I am a Mac user, and believe me, this would not happen on a Mac. I only have this second computer with Microsoft because the rest of the world has Microsoft. Somebody, help!:help:

If you have some time in the saddle, you can pretty easily get rid of it . . but it requires a little knowledge on icons and such . . let me try . . . . .

Go to MY COMPUTER and left click on it

This'll open up a list of things that exist in that category .

If you have the Classic Display set to run, you'll see CONTROL PANEL there .

If not . . then just hit the Windows Key . . the one with the flag on the lower row of keys and you will pop up your START button and see a card on the left side of your screen .

Find the word: SETTINGS there and hover, (just put your pointer on the word by using your mouse and you'll get it to open to the right, revealing the word CONTROL PANEL . Move your pointer to that word (CONTROL PANEL) and left click on it .

Find the word or icon for SYSTEM . . . if it's not there, you need to shift to CLASSIC MODE which is in the top of an area we call the TREE . . . on the left top of the screen . . . . it's a link and will toggle to CLASSIC VIEW and CATEGORY VIEW alternately . Stay in the CLASSIC VIEW for this operation .

Now, since you've found the icon for SYSTEM . . just find the tab for SYSTEM RESTORE and un-check or remove the check mark in the box that turns on or off the RESTORE device .

You'll get a few warnings . . just use the affirmative or accept the consequences for this particular repair .

Click APPLY and then OK to close that card .

From this point you can make some basic repairs to your system as the ability of a virus or malware to pop back out of the RESTORE area will be removed and the chances of re-infection will be gone now .

Get back and post if you are still here and we can continue .

Oh, WMG, you're wife is here!
