605548 2007-10-26 03:31:00 Given to me an old computer, open up the case cover and found that there are 2 CPUs. Haven't seen anything like this before!

Pushed the ON button, Fedora core loads but stucked at half way through.

Turned off power and inserted a Windows install CD but can only go up to 'Inspecting computer hardware ....' then the screen goes black; with HDD light on.

Can someone tell me something more about 2-cpu computers, please?

Without dismantling all the parts, I could only see "SUPER P6DBU rev 1.1" printed on the MB.

This computer was owned by my friend's brother who is now in Germany.

605551 2007-10-26 03:53:00 Ok, it looks like its a dual P2 or P3 system .

Probably P3 .

And it supports up to 1 GHZ and its 100 fsb .

The SUPER P6DBS/P6DBE/P6DBU/P6SBU/P6SBS/P6SBA/P6SBM supports
Pentium II 233-333 MHz and Celeron 266-433 MHz processors at a 66 MHz
bus speed, Pentium II 350-450 MHz and Pentium III processors at a 100 MHz
FSB speed .

The SUPER P6DBU/P6DBS/P6DBE supports dual Pentium II and
III processors, while the SUPER P6SBU/P6SBS/P6SBA/P6SBM supports a
single Pentium II or III processor* .

All seven motherboards are based on Intel’s 440BX chipset, which supports a 66/100 MHz front side bus speed, an Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP), Wake-on-LANÔ , SDRAM, concurrent PCI and a 33 MB/s Ultra DMA burst data transfer rate . (See notes below . )

Thanks Speedy. I have downloaded the user manual. It has 2 PII cpus in this machine. Tried again and found that Fedora loads OK but don't have the user name and password to log in.

Do you think I can load windows 98 in this machine?

Does it work with only ONE CPU?
bk T (215)
605553 2007-10-26 04:31:00 I dont think so .

98 wont recognise 2 CPUs .

2000/XP + would and Linux .
Speedy Gonzales (78)
605554 2007-10-26 04:41:00 Probably designed to run NT, does it have a sticker on the side?
You can pick up an NT 4 disk for a couple of dollars on trademe

as for fedora core there are ways around the password and username, (linuxgazette.net)

605555 2007-10-26 07:08:00 Thanks, folks. bk T (215)
605556 2007-10-26 07:13:00 also note not all vesions of 2000/xp are dual processor. i think you have to have the pro version. might be easier to stick with linux ;) tweak'e (69)
605557 2007-10-26 07:17:00 Does it mean that 2 processors is faster than single processor? bk T (215)
