| 605540 | 2007-10-26 03:11:00 | My computer won't allow me to open or use any thing but e-mail and internet.Everytime I click on anything in START (eg. "My Computer" or "My Documents" etc) it throws up a box saying: "windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" Clicking on this box gives an Error Signature: AppName:explorer.exe AppVer:6.0.2900.3156 ModName:shell32.dll ModVer:6.0.2900.3051 Offset:0018c801 Then asks if I want to send auto detail of fault to Windows to which I reply "send" and it does it's thing but then won't allow me to turn off the computer at all, in fact seizes up and the only way out is to Ctrl,Alt,Del to be able to shut down. What the hell's happening? The last thing it did before this was to download auto updates to Windows. Can anyone help me? I've got Windows XP |

| 605541 | 2007-10-26 03:22:00 | Sounds like one or more of the updates may have caused a problem. Try this - start the PC then as it very first starts press F8, when a black screen appears with white writing - Using the arrow keys go to Last Know configeration that worked and select that ( enter). See if that helps. If not retry by selecting "safe mode" go into system Restore, Start/all Programs/ Accessories/system Tools/ System Restore and wind the PC back to before the updates. See if that fixes it. Restore can sometimes be a pain in the Butt - but others it can save hours of work. Let us know how you get on Please. |

| 605542 | 2007-10-26 03:23:00 | Check task manager and see if there are any strange names there. If there are end their process first. You could also try getting trojan remover in my sig. Install it run it click on scan. Then select all options under utilities. You could also try getting hijackthis in my sig. Put it in its own folder, run it then click on scan the system and save a log. Post the log here. Can you go to any sites?? Obviously you can, you're here. |
