605218 2007-10-25 20:15:00 I'm sure I used to get the same crc error when I used BartPE on my previous PC a while back. But it was not the hard drive at fault, fortunately I have another BartPE boot disc (CD not CD-RW as my first disc) which did not give the crc error.

Maybe it's an error in windows/Bart PE disc/CD-DVD drive trying to read your bART PE disc? You may want to evaluate the plugins (www.bootcd.us)for BartPE. Useful plugins which I have are drive xml (www.runtime.org)(free image back up - runtime) and a USB plugin (It may be already installed) to transfer the drive xml from a removable drive to your laptop. Also a new/updated nu2 menu may be required. But of course you have to create another BartPE ISO and possibly customise, extract, etc, the drive xml plugin...

605219 2007-10-25 20:22:00 Thanks for the reference, Speedy. Must get one.

The drive is a Hitachi. Imaged the Hitachi disk tester, booted from the CD, it loaded a ramdrive and mouse dvr, then got "Loading DFT.." and that was that. Damn these things that don't work. And we wonder where the time to repair goes!

Found the alt-F10 to get it to the system restore screen so guess this is the way to go. Still would like a disk tester to run over it, though.

Thanks for help.

605220 2007-10-25 20:27:00 Thanks very much for that very useful info, kahawai . I do need to create a new Bart PE disk and I will follow your advice with the plugins . I have tried drive xml and I like the USB dvr idea . I got the image files transferred by enabling network support from Bart and that did work . But I did try my USB drive first!

Cheers .

605221 2007-10-25 23:14:00 OK, I got the system restore to do its thing and there appear to be no hard errors. So, just lots of updating, re-installing and backup training! And getting data separated from the system partition!

Thanks for help.
