2007-10-27 20:55:00 | Hi All,:help: recently i acquired a Nokia M1122 ADSL Modem/Router. I updated the firmware last night to Gx1x2220.R08. It had Gx1x2210.R09 i think. The process was via the telnet session to 192.168.8.1 port 23, via the TCP/IP and ran TFTP Server as well. M1122>install tftp:/192.168.8.100/tftpd32e/Gx1x2220.R08 Blocks received Transfer status SUCCESSFUL M1122>restart i have sucessfully uploaded Gx1x2220.R08 and rebooted, logged in via the browser. I uploaded the startup.cfg via the browser, and clicked apply or load, can't remember, and then i lost my network connection to the router, and everything went out of my control. I have bought a Serial to RJ45 Cable as well (here's what i have, AP9307 www.apc.com but can't seem to get it going. I need to be able to get the router in working mode. dunno what went wrong, or where i slipped. any help wil be great. Right now i do not get an ip address from the router. i get an appipa address of 169..... please anyone with any ideas???:help:

2007-10-28 00:08:00 | The serial cable you need has a slightly weird pinout (www.wlug.org.nz) - make sure it matches what you have. The settings for your terminal should be 9600/8N1. Can you post the config file you uploaded to the modem please? If I can take a look at it it'll help me figure out what's wrong. That firmware file you installed is an old one - the one you want is Gx1x2230.R04 (www.wlug.org.nz).

2007-11-02 04:13:00 | There are a number of incompatible RJ45 to DB9 "Console"cables used by different manufacturers. A cable made for Cisco routers won't work on Nokia routers. :( If you have a wrong cable, you should be able to connect through an Ethernet connector if you give your computer a fixed IP address in the range used by the Nokia router. With new firmware, I'd guess that it uses the default address given in the manual. Otherwise, do a hardware reset and force it to have the default Ip address.

Otherwise, do a hardware reset and force it to have the default Ip address. These models are slightly different - they have a user-replacable 'factory config' file independant of the firmware. The 'defaults' can be just about anything! The only guaranteed way to get in is with the serial cable. | Erayd (23) | ||

2007-11-05 11:27:00 | The cable i have is the APC Console Server DB9F to RJ45 Cross Cable (www.apc.com), not sure on how to determine the pinouts. :-(

2007-11-06 02:42:00 | If you have a multimeter or some other form of continuity tester, you can check the cable with a couple of pieces of small wire wrapped on the probes. (You need a wire which will go into the DB9 sockets, and actuially touch the RJ45 contacts.) The RJ45 pins are numbered 1-8 , left to right if you hold the plug with the cable down, and the latch facing away from you. The only wires you need to check are contacts 2, 3, and 5 on the DB9 (which should have the contact numbers moulded onto the face of the socket. If those are wrong, it's the wrong cable. ;) However, from that cfg file, you should be able to give your computer a fixed IP address in the 192.168.. range and connect to the router at 192.168.1.254 .

2007-11-09 03:36:00 | Thanks, but i can't connect to the router, even by having a static ip on my lan card in the 192.168.1.xx range, and with correct subnet and gateway. i have tested this twice before this post, and tested now as well. I don't have a multi-meter, but can arrange for my Serial to RJ45 cable to be re-terminated correctly to work for M1122. i guess i'll need the correct pinout. Also, is there any way to check if the CLI port is stuffed on the M1122 router?? If it's that the case, it could be very well causing me grief. Thanks
