2007-10-25 06:08:00 | Help! I have an ACER laptop here which won't boot. Booted it with Bart PE and going to the C: drive I get a 'Data Error Cyclic Redundancy check' message. Any experiences that would be helpful? Maybe there is a utility that will restitch the CRC?

2007-10-25 06:18:00 | Try and find out the brand of the hdd . Then download the diagnostic tools from whatever site . That might be the easiest option . You may have to replace the hdd .

2007-10-25 06:35:00 | Speedy, of course I don't know whether the error is hard or soft . If soft, a format will fix it . Guess it is possible to restore from the hidden OS partition . Guess I had better check this out . There is a second partition that is OK so the drive basically functions .

2007-10-25 09:11:00 | I don't know the HDD brand . Laptop BIOS's are so pathetic - the drive is not described . I can't think of any other way of finding the brand (don't want to pull the drive out!) . chkdsk /r did nothing . I have got BootItNG doing an image to the D: drive so maybe I can extract important files from this . BING did jib at some errors but it did continue . Here's hoping . Hope is good!!

2007-10-25 09:15:00 | It would be easier to take it out and connect it to a desktop . As a slave or something . And copy whatever you want off it (besides programs that have already been installed) . Then check it while its connected to a desktop for errors etc . And if it is nearly stuffed, you'll have no choice/option but to remove / take it out .

2007-10-25 19:04:00 | I don't have a 2 . 5" IDE capability on my desktop . Latest is that I now have the BING image on my desktop drive and have extracted from it the main data (photos) except for one sub folder that was corrupted . Next challenge, determining whether the errors are hard or soft . Then I have to replace drive and somehow restore from the hidden partition or reformat and restore from partition . I'm not feeling good already!!
