1415590 2016-02-06 08:37:00 Hi you lot,

Just sitting here not playing videogames because Orcon's exchange decided to crap its pants and give me 700 MS delay for anything that's not ping traffic.

Following their constant failure to make our voip phone ring in our out (plays a busy tone instead) and them overcharging for 6 months after my plan changed price and they didn't inform me, but then when the price increased by 5 dollars they happily added that to my ALREADY overpaying bill, this is really near the last bloody straw.

My sync speeds have bounced between 10 mbps and 44 mbps (on vdsl no less) and while the ping results to any site are fine, it seems any non ping traffic gets completely neutered.

So, I was considering spark - as much as I dislike them, I've been with Vodafone before and work with them quite alot at work and know their network falls over frequently so don't feel like going with them.
I'm not sure about the smaller ISP's - I like the look of MyRepublic but I don't know how good the smaller guys are. Particularly since many of them require contracts and I don't want to have to fight my way out of a bad deal if they fail to deliver a service.
Any opinions guys?

Also, to get technical -

Modem page reports my current sync speed -

B0 Traffic Type: PTM
B0 Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 450
B0 Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 11344

Orcon is owned by Slingshot now.
There are really 3 main companies these days.
Spark
Slingshot
Vodafone

All the others got bought out by mainly the last 2.
Actrix still, 2 degrees and that's about it for independents.

1415592 2016-02-06 19:11:00 Very happy with 2D joined when they were still Snap can only get ADSL2 here though gary67 (56)
1415593 2016-02-06 19:58:00 Spark works without fault for me. CliveM (6007)

1415595 2016-02-07 00:20:00 Hm. leaning towards Spark. Was going to jump to them previously, the only thing that stopped me was orcon saying they needed 30 days notice despite me not being on a contract.
Cheapskate ****ers.

It's really annoying as well, since my ping results to this stupid device are bouncing all over the place.
They're going between 30 MS and timing out completely (which would mean over a full second) so it means online gaming is nigh-on impossible, and i'm sure it isn't my router that's at fault, since pinging one side of that device in the exchange yesterday was giving a completely different result to pinging the other side.

1415596 2016-02-07 06:21:00 I've been with Actrix for about 14 years.
They often get voted the best ISP.
Good service from kiwi guys you can talk to.

Why support one of the big companies that just give enough customer service so that they don't lose anymore customers?

Yeah sounds like an el-cheapo router at fault there too. Not that I'm excusing Orcon, I've had friends on VDSL2 with them who can't even do 720p YouTube videos, but still... Expect to get yourself a new router.
