| 1420564 | 2016-05-15 23:37:00 | Its not that uncommon for old DVD/CD drives to fail with read issues . These drives are possibly 10 years old. You could try having ONLY 1 dvd/cd drive connected ( and change the jumper to master or auto) The real fix is to replace the DVD drive , or try another from another PC. Actually ,old IDE XP PC's are worthless now, you could buy a complete working XP PC for almost nothing . Many companies simply scrap PC's that old , so you could possibly get something better with working drives from trademe. Bottom line is, how much of your time do you want to put into it ? |
