1419972 2016-05-03 21:50:00 Right, well last night after my second rum had hit the spot my interest in my ultra-slow Broadband decreased exponentially as my interest in the rum bottle rose proportionally. :)

However, this morning shortly after 6am I thought I would try my laptop again from my man- cave about 6 metres from the modem through one wooden wall and this is what I got.

Clearly I had got the rum and the ultra-slow broadband the hangover.

This led me to return to where I was last night before interruption and connect by a 1 metre Ethernet cable, having turned the wireless off first to save any conflict.

The Results:

Clearly I have landed myself a load of rubbish unless someone has other suggestions. :(

1419973 2016-05-03 22:16:00 The very first thing, dont waste your time doing speedtests via wifi , untill this issue is resolved.

Also, try a speedtest via telecom/sparks website, that does a NZ based speedtest & will show if its just perhaps an international speed issue
You need to ring the ISP

Ok, well I hooked onto Sparks speedtest as you suggested but maybe they won't let the opposition (vodafone) use it because I couldn't get to first base?

And yes I take your point about Wi-Fi, but an Ethernet connection could only muster 9.77Mbps out of a supposed 100Mbps.

In other words, I'm getting about 10% of my plans download speed.

Odd too that the Upstream speed is near enough correct, no matter if I'm using Ethernet or Wi-Fi, it's the Downstream that is all over the place but never near the plan speed.

1419975 2016-05-03 23:55:00 I'm just putting it out there now, I absolutely freakin' hate those routers...

At 10m, even on 802.11n, you should EASILY be getting a good 50mbps, even on 2.4Ghz!

Cabled, there's no excuse for you not to be reaching the 100mbps, unless your PC is old as the depths of hell itself.

That said, I know that some providers like that TrustPower have issues even streaming a 720p video (imgur.com) and some friends of mine confirm. However, I'd expect Vodafone to be better...

So here's a few things you can do:
1) Do you know anybody else with UFB? Can you take your laptop over there, plug it in, ensure you get 100mbps? Means you can 100% rule out your laptop being an issue and that leaves just the router or the UFB itself, both of which Vodafone supplied
2) Do you know anybody who would lend you a router to try and replace that one? Don't just go out and get any old router from Dick Smith or JB HiFi, they again vary in reliability tremendously.

Nope, wont be that, just tried the speed test from both speedtest.net and Sparks site, exactly the same speed ( I'm on Vodafone Cable.)

It's more than likely vodafone.

Had similar a few weeks back, after my Cable Modem almost burst into flames  After the replacement my speed drop was massive.

When calling Vodafone they decided to get the guy back around, even after checking all the settings Locally on what I was meant to be getting. When he turned up, plugged in his box of tricks and said you are getting full speed to the modem (300Mbps up and down) connected up everything again and what ya know - Back to full speed on a speed test, yet a few hours before it was still slow as.

I'll give to polite version :D -- he said bet anything you like they found the fault out the back, fixed it and didn't bother to call him to advise. Seen that happen countless times.

1419977 2016-05-04 01:41:00 Like your thinking Chill.

Yep the guy next door has fibre and is a good guy so I’ll catch up with him and take it from there.

Wainui, I know where you’re coming from.

When I was with Kinect (Trustpower) I had a problem and they had me swapping leads, swapping filters, swapping the Modem in fact swapping everything, after which the announced that they would send a faultman, but, if the problem was at my end there was a charge of $200, to which I replied, beauty, and if it’s not you pay me $200.

There was a short exchange of fire and a faultman was called who fixed the problem in the exchange in about 2 mins. A misplaced jumper he informed me when he rang to check things were up and running again.

In the meantime I have lit up my faithful old XP Machine which runs a very classy Dynalink DYWUK54 usb dongle Wi-Fi and connected onto Spark and Speedtest no problem and produced the following speed results. Slightly different but not bad for such an old 54Mbps Dongle.

1419978 2016-05-04 02:29:00 surely talking to vodafone about the problem would be the obvious solution.... bevy121 (117)
