1415201 2016-01-30 23:09:00 Called into garage in Sydney to fill up after using rental, petrol circa $30 and a bottle of lemonade.

Got home to NZ and found they had charged me $700 +

Got in touch with Visa, seems I had made two mistakes, One, I didn't look at receipt and two I had put my pin in.
They got in touch with owner, he told them a pack of lies, saying he remembered the big purchase, two carton of cigs, firewood and bags of ice etc.

Turns out there is nothing I can do as the Visa rule is, if you put in pin and don't check, you own the bill.

.

Seriously?
Did you contact your bank or Visa direct?

Go to your bank,.

I'd say the owner should ****en prove that, lets see the camera footage of you buying all that stuff he said.
All garages have cameras now...

Go to the police too, they can make him show the footage......I'd be making a hell of a fuss.

1415202 2016-01-30 23:36:00 Really sorry to hear about it Cic, but if they had done it to you they would have done it to other Caucasians as well. If you notify the feld polezei they might be able to help. prefect (6291)
1415203 2016-01-30 23:46:00 They probably noticed that you had a rental and wouldn't be back that way. Thanks for the wake-up as I am guilty of not checking the receipt.

I wish I could offer a course of action but I can only sympathize with you.

1415204 2016-01-31 00:32:00 1) Is the garage part of a chain, eg Mobil, BP whatever, if so go straight to their social media page and post a warning to other tourists to avoid that chain, nothing like bad publicity to spur action
2)Post a query about this on an Aussie board eg eBay Australia, where it will get a bit of ocker attention
3) Also post on tourism Sydney www.facebook.com

I only did that once, when was on my way to a village BBQ to farewell the owner of the local store, and I dropped into the store to pickup up a six pack of appropriate brown stuff.

The new owners served me and processed my credit card, which I duly signed. Only by chance did I later idly glance at the receipt - to find out I'd authorized over $1,200 on my card for a six pack of beer.

A reversal of their mistake (being new to retailing and cards) was made without problem, but some locals never quite stopped ragging the owners about it and their get rich quick scheme

Ever since, I've religiously checked what I've signed for.

I went to the bank, but as I said, the rules are, you put in pin, then you own it.
Visa agree that they are crooks, but would probably cost more to prove it, especially as they are in Sydney.

Can you imagine the police taking abn interst in my case with most of that lot on the take.

Well, yes, it is Aussie....

Still, $700. I couldn't afford to let that go, I'd be making a hell of a fuss, starting in the garage, insisting they show the footage, taking it up with the owners of it, and the corporation who holds their franchise, and I'd probably get police involved due to the fuss I'd be causing in the garage.

The garage is a private company owned by the thieving manager and co.

If it was one of the big ones I would have a show, but then it wouldn't have happened.
