2007-10-31 18:32:00 | Hey, i've got a computer with specs as follow... Intel Pentium 4, 2.8ghz processor 2 GB DDR Ram 120GB WD IDE Hard drive 500GB WD SATA Hard drive DVD+R/RW, CD drive nVidia GeForce FX5200 graphics card Aswell as the basics, motherboard, mouse, keyboard etc Would my current 'BESTEC, ATX-250-12Z' 250W power supply provide enough power? The supply came with my computer, and i wasn't sure if i needed to upgrade it. If so, any suggestions on what to buy? Thanks

2007-10-31 18:39:00 | Sorry, but that PSU is crap! :waughh: Definitley need an upgrade. I'd recommend a 450-550w Ernemax.

2007-10-31 18:56:00 | 500W is overkill I reckon. That system can go by with a decent 350W. Look for around 400-450W decent brand PSU, Hyena or AcBel.

2007-10-31 19:02:00 | Decent brand PSU & Hyena should not be in the same sentence! Unless it is "Hyena is not a decent brand of PSU"

2007-10-31 19:43:00 | Hyena is one of the worst, if not the worst brand of PSU ever. I did say 450-550 qazwsxokmijn. I notice the same wattage you recommended?? Perhaps not ernemax, but someting decent....

2007-10-31 20:13:00 | Look for around 400-450W decent brand PSU, Hyena or AcBel. Jeez, you best be quiet until you've done your research. Hyenas are the most crap nasty things on the planet. And its not so much the wattage either, you may have something claiming huge watts thats exaggerated and have crap maps on the +12v.

2007-11-01 02:01:00 | Really? All the 3 Hyenas I have had never gave me a problem. :( | qazwsxokmijn (102) | |
2007-11-01 02:19:00 | decent brand PSU, Hyena or AcBel . im gonna have to disagree with you there :eek: after having 15+ Hyena PSU's explode and take out various PC Parts i have to say they are really REALLY crap - nice and cheap but nice and cheap generally means horrid and nasty - ive had a fair few AcBel PSU's go poof on me too but they didint take any other things out - so they might be a tad better :p i see hyena have a "gaming Power supply" utter bollocks - all they did was take a already crap 400W hyena PSU ( whats the bet its a re-badged 300-350W PSU?) and put in a pair of Tri-Colour LED Fans in it and jack the price up they are about as usefull as the "SLI ready!!" Ram Sticks and those new "gaming surfaces" <-- a generic mousepad with a $80 price tag :eek: back to the OP: no 250W is not enough - go for a decent 350W+ PSU from Either SilverStone or Enermax - me and a few guys i know use these PSU's all the time - they might be a few bucks more but they are of a much better standard of Quality :thumbs:

2007-11-01 02:50:00 | Well the brands I have available to me so far are... -Antec -Cooler Master -Corsair -Enermax -OCZ -Sea Sonic -Silverstone -Tagan -Thermaltake -Zalman -Zippy Which brands do you reckon are the best? I plan to purchase from this sitehttp://www.ascent.co.nz/Category.aspx?majorcatID=51 Also does it matter what ATX version? Cheers
EviLClouD (12981) | ||
2007-11-01 03:06:00 | Sea Sonic, Silverstone, Corsair & Tagan are probably the best out of that list! Enermax and Antec are good. Have no experience with zippy or ocz, wouldnt bother with the rest. You should go for ATX 2.0 at the least, later version have the more powerful 150w PCIe connectors for graphics cards.
