606625 2007-10-30 05:22:00 This has probably been mentioned before, If you run "Vista Transformation Pack 6.0.exe" in xp pro it will replace all the ikons, backgrounds, tool bars etc. I have had no problems with it & it makes it look real good! The program is free.

Make an Image (Acronis, Ghost etc) of the partition first, just incase.

606626 2007-10-30 05:30:00 Well you have to be careful with some of those programs. As some replace some important files.

And its not easy getting them back, or uninstalling those programs.

Ain't that the truth:thumbs: If that Transformation Pack is installed and you have a system problem forget about running the XP CD to do a non distructive reinstall , it wont work, the pack changes some very important files which the original XP needs.

606628 2007-10-30 08:33:00 I never use the XP CD anyway. Have always kept Acronis Image files, hence I can reinstall in about 12 minutes. Much quicker than reinstalling everything.

You have the option of changing system files or not; have tried both and had no problems.

Acronis is good  But of course not every one would bother taking an image - wish I had $100 for every time I have heard from customers " I know I shouldn't have done that" ----- Oh wait I do;) I make a loiving from it !!

606630 2007-10-30 09:21:00 This is interesting in that people install Linux and try to make it it look like Windows and etc.

The operating system is there to run the applications with the correct drivers for the hardware.

So we have just what?

My box just works for me.

To anyone that wants to experiment then feel free.

606631 2007-10-30 09:27:00 i tried a vista pack that even had all the gadgets and MSN mod and everything, and uninstall gave the option to leave certain features...

i didn't really appreciate the eye candy, immediately got rid of useless gadgets, and shortly after uninstalled, but left msn until an update reverted that too:(

i really don't see the point. same os, just it looked new, not better.

606632 2007-10-30 18:56:00 I installed it on a laptop at work. Wish I hadn't as it runs like a dog now. The pack even emulates the slownest of vista as well.. paulw (1826)
606633 2007-10-30 19:36:00 I've got that transformation pack installed on one of my other PCs and quite like it. Have only had one or two small niggles but it hasn't slowed things down at all. It gives me the best of both worlds - Vista's looks without its annoying "features". FoxyMX (5)
606634 2007-10-31 00:41:00 I looked at this the other day, the only reason I didn't try it was because of the warning about changing system files (I don't have a HDD image like you) and the other warning saying "Note: You are now downloading a Adware version of Vista Transformation Pack." - Except I think that last bit was just Softpedia's version that was an adware version

He's making XP look like Vista, not Linux look like Vista.
