606385 2007-10-29 13:50:00 Hello I've got a wireless network problem.

My wired network works fine. However when I enable my wireless card (and external aerial for my ralink network card I get as far as putting in the name and password and then the software showing that I have "65% signal strength - connected" but no further.

I checked and the network isn't giving me an IP address or anything like that, so I clicked repair and after a while of it saying "renewing IP address" and "Detecting network address" it stops and gives me an error saying that the network may have limited connectability.

The network disconnects every 30 seconds or so (at random intervals), no idea why it's doing this.

Can anyone help?

Sorry if this is a bit hard to understand, I'm tired and frustrated, I've just been trying to get this to WORK.

606386 2007-10-29 18:35:00 What wireless network are you trying to connect to?
Is it a wireless router? If so what model?
Usually when it looks like you are connected to a wireless network but it doesn't work it is a security problem (wrong WEP or WPA key.)
I would disable any security you have set up in your wireless access point and see if it works.
Once you have that working then turn on security (preferably WPA2 if it is available)

606387 2007-10-31 00:51:00 It's a Belkin 54g using WPA-PSK encryption.
It's still set on the default password at the moment. Could the fact that I'm using a Ralink wireless utility to connect to a Belkin router have any effect on it?

I've got a friend who knows about wireless comming to help me. Should be easier than trying to sort it out over a forum.

606388 2007-10-31 01:08:00 No, the companies usually dont matter. Actually they very very rarely matter. Try going down to WEP security and then seeing if ti connects, could just be the passwords and other settings not matching. beeswax34 (63)
606389 2007-10-31 01:54:00 As I said earlier, I would test it with security disabled to make sure you can at least get a connection, then start setting up the security. CYaBro (73)
