606390 2007-10-29 10:01:00 I purchase a harddrive thru this place

pconlineshop.co.nz

It was a 320GB IDE harddrive seagate

I know for a fact that new harddrive like seagate normally have 1 or 3 years warranty

I was just wondering that the site does not say there is warranty

Is there any such law in Nz that requires all new products to have warranty?

606391 2007-10-29 10:26:00 I think Seagate offers 5 years manufacturer's warranty. That's if you have a proof of purchase, though. qazwsxokmijn (102)

So ask them.

606394 2007-10-29 11:55:00 As far as I can remember, Seagate has always been 5 years. Talk to the shop first though. beeswax34 (63)

You don't need one if it failed within the life span expected from a HD you are entitled to replacement.

I would say 4 or 5 years would be the expected lifespan of any new HD under NORMAL Home usage.

606397 2007-10-29 19:48:00 5 years. If the shop won't honour the warranty you can RMA it direct to Seagate in SIngapore. pctek (84)

About 5 years ago Seagate reduced their 3 year warranty to 1 year then upped it to 5 late 2004. If all their reasons for increasing were valid why did they drop it in the 1st place?

606399 2007-10-29 21:04:00 Under the consumer guarantees act the product should last for the expected lifespan of such a product so even if the hard drive was out of warranty the retailer would still be require to repair or replace the product. Pete O'Neil (6584)
