606361 2007-10-29 08:52:00 Being old, I have loads of photos; some even older than my parents. Also I have even more negatives - 35mm:110, both in B/W & in colour negative & transparency.
Photo shops can do it for me; but I can't afford it.
I've a scanner (canoscan) - but I wonder if there's anyone who can tell me of how to do it. Canoscan is helpful; but not quite..........................thanks sarum.
PS. I'm Ubuntu only.

606362 2007-10-29 10:31:00 You need a scanner with a special backlight attachment that is designed for scanning negatives. A normal scanner won't do it properly Agent_24 (57)

606364 2007-10-29 19:09:00 I have just scanned 200+ slides with my Canon Pixma MP760 . Have yet to print out any of the results but it has done brilliant job .

With photo negatives I found that the few I have tried so far weren't as good as scanning the original photos but I didn't really know what I was doing back then . Will be having another go when I have finished doing the slides .

What model is your Canonscan? My Pixma has a special backlight and negative/slide attachment for scanning film . You can't do it with an ordinary scanner .

606365 2007-10-29 19:53:00 Sarum...I agree with all of the above. We tried it with an "Ordinary" scanner & it would not work with negatives. We bought the "Righr Scanner " & it was OK. Pop down th Dick Smiths, they have some cheap stuff, you might be lucky. PJ Poppa John (284)

606367 2007-10-30 01:28:00 cant remember where I saw this on the net but theres a little 'doohicky' you can make with tinfoil if I recall correctly very simple and it'll allow you to scan negatives very nicely drcspy (146)
606368 2007-10-30 05:36:00 This is soooo simple.
Go to google and type in scan negative.
It brings up reviews of how it's done, equipment to do it
and ways of DIY at home without purchasing anything

I can now do this easily using my digital camera and a piece of reflective white board.

cheers

606369 2007-11-02 09:37:00 I borrowed a friend's Epson Stylus CX530 and scanned loads of my father's and husband's slides - some over 50 years old. Most of them were a little fuzzy but the 'sharpness' feature on ACDSee fixed that and I used photoshop 7 to tidy a few of them. Have had some printed by digitalmax and they are really terrific. My family and cousins are very pleased with the copies I have sent them. It was worth the effort and time it took as the photos bring back memories of our family life and holidays with our cousins that would otherwise not be seen again. katharinem (3459)
606370 2007-12-03 03:03:00 Why do you want to scan negatives. As far as I know to turn negatives into photos is a chemical process.
