606233 2007-10-29 05:25:00 Hey, How yal all doing? :)

I am having a problem installing Windows Media Player, I have just formatted and re-installed Windows XP due to a frustrating virus.

I am trying to install Media Player 10 and I get the error message about 50 % into it, the error says:
The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. ( Tell me why this testing is importnat)

The software will not be installed. Contact your system administrator.

This also happens when I try install Windows Media Player 11

Im on Windows XP with SP2 :illogical

606234 2007-10-29 07:42:00 How are you installing WMP?
Are you doing it through the Automatic updates or did you manually download the program and ran it locally.

606235 2007-10-29 09:07:00 Ahh I know what the problem is....I can't remember where the option is in XP... it's in the system properties somewhere, advanced I think, for some reason a setting will have been changed. If someone else doesn't solve it, I'll probably post back tomorrow when I have an XP machine to look at! wratterus (105)
606236 2007-10-29 18:42:00 Ok, here we go.

Right click on 'My Computer' and click properties. This should open up the 'System Properties' window.

Click on the 'Hardware' tab. Under 'Drivers' click on 'Driver Signing'.

I expect 'Block - Never Install Unsigned Driver Software' to be selected.

Change it to either 'Warn - Prompt me each time to choose an action', or "Ignore - Install the software and don't ask for my approval'.
