606956 2007-11-01 08:39:00 Okay - that screen shot you provided ( thanks) is that taken Before or after the MB drivers were installed.

We had a problem similar to this a week back - IS there any other Plugin cards installed or are you using the Onboard everything.

EG:
Onboard Audio or Plug In sound Card
Edited out - Located MB and seen it hhas no OB Graphics
Plug in PCI usb Card or what is the PCI Device thats showing.

Just a thought - since you have already had the side off the case - have a look at where the front USB port/wires plug into the board, Is the plug 1 single plug with all wires, or are there seperate connectors for each colour of wire. If single, from left to right whats the coulour sequence.

See Here (www.imagef1.net.nz)

606957 2007-11-01 18:31:00 The screenshot is from SP2 with all the drivers from the mobo cd installed.

It has a PCI sound card but thats the only PCI device.

Using a videocard.

Do you want a screenshot of the drivers CD software / drivers list? Because when you click on the USB2 driver it says its not needed on XP.

606958 2007-11-01 18:51:00 Another thing is the HDD is a 320gb, but its only showing 127gb. Adeane (12918)

That and the unknown drivers in that picture tell me you haven't installed all the drivers nor have you installed SP1 or SP2.

606960 2007-11-01 19:30:00 Thats what I thought (SP1 or 2 HASNT been installed).

This post is getting as bad as WD's (It went nowhere, and in the end got locked).

606961 2007-11-01 19:33:00 There area few problems here that don't quite add up.

OK from what you have said the USB ports work when running from a Live Linux CD ?

Looking at the screen shot you provided along with what you replied, some are easy to fix ( famous Last words;) ) Look at the sceen shot Here Altered (www.imagef1.net.nz) The two highlighted are the Sound Card - The Unknown PCI and multimedia should merge together - Install the Drivers that came with the sound Card - seperate CD to the Motherboard- you may have to select the correct audio output in sound manager once this is going.

The one with the arrow - is the Graphic Card - install the drivers from the graphic Card CD that you should have gotten also.

Something is strange though regarding the USB - you say SP2 is installed ? - if you look at the bottom of the Pic you supplied 1 of the USB's have installed.

Try installing the CD's as advised above and see if that Unknown USB device disappears and the USB ports work. I suspect they wont - so go into the BIOS and look for the option to reset the BIOS back to default settings.

The other Question
Do you want a screenshot of the drivers CD software / drivers list? Because when you click on the USB2 driver it says its not needed on XP. No thanks, no need, you are right XP SP 2 does not normally need the USB2 Driver it comes loaded in the OS.

Another thing is the HDD is a 320gb, but its only showing 127gb. Ok thats not right, (This is a NEW PC isn't it? )
you didn't tell it to partition the drive when installing XP ? If you open My Computer, right click the drive / properties it should tell you the drives size there.

Also did you manage to look at the header on the Front USB as I suggested last night ?

I'm off to do some jobs and wont be back till later today, I'll look back here when I return - maybe speedy or someone else can help some more.

The windows CD you installed the OS from - is it a Genuine XP CD or a copy or someones recovery CD ?

Last resort- what part of the country do you live in, I could prob fix it for you as long as its not hardware faulty but it would cost- be a proper job, and I would need the PC.

606962 2007-11-01 20:12:00 Im in Taupo.

Yes brand new computer, when I intalled windows it said the unpatitioned space was 130000mb (I think, something about that number, but in the bios it says its a 320gb HDD).

I am using Windows XP Microsoft Open Licence Product CD + Updating to SP2 from the Microsoft updates site.

No I havent openned up the computer to check the USB headers yet.

606963 2007-11-01 20:24:00 Take a snapshot of the general tab (right mouse on my computer on the desktop).

So, we can see SP1 or 2 has been installed. (blank out your name and product ID).

That ? With USB controller shouldnt be there.

Or delete that USB controller entry, then reboot, and see if it reappears.

606965 2007-11-01 21:15:00 Did you delete that entry before when I said to in the 3rd post??

Does it appear in ontrol panel / admin tools / computer managment / disk management now as unallocated?
