Does the USB mouse come with a USb>PS2 adaptor ? If so try the standard PS2 Mouse port and see if the usb ports now work, IF you don't have the adaptor, get another mouse PS2 and try that - See if the USB ports work - in case there is something strange happening with the mouse causing the problems. There is one other test you can do (I do this in my workshop to fault find USB ports) - You will need a live Linux CD something like Knoppix, this loads from the CD not your windows OS, if you have a live CD, plug in a USB dervice first, boot from the CD and as long as the ports are working it will detect the device, you have to have it plugged in when booting other wise it wont detect. If the Live CD works, but windows doesnt, then its a software problem - if it still wont detect the USB device with the Live CD the boards faulty. - Take it back. |

2007-10-31 20:29:00 | When he got the computer, the HDD wasnt secured properly, and the heatsink had fallen off the CPU during shipping so I had to fix these to things (DONT USE ASCENT TO GET YOUR COMPUTER BUILT). Would the heatsink falling off the CPU and hitting the motherboard and rattleing about during shipping cause some damage to the MOBO? YES it could. ARRRGGGGGG!!:groan: You should have contacted them right away when you discovered that - It takes a lot for a heat sink to fall off, it either wasn't attached correctly in the first place, or the PC has taken a HUGE knock /thump. Either way its not good.

2007-10-31 21:34:00 | I'll get a USB PCI card today, hopefully it will be a temp fix. | Adeane (12918) | |
2007-10-31 21:54:00 | TAKE IT BACK! The longer you leave it, the more you'll try and fix it. Then it'll be totally screwed.

2007-10-31 23:37:00 | I doubt the mobo has a problem if the mouse is working, what do you guys think? Read Post 29 from Speedy!! Front USB ports dont work Appears only 1 USB port on rear is working Heat Sink Was off when recieved This all YELLS fault on MB. No disrespect meant here - but since you are asking for help, and its been given by several people who DO know what they are doing - only beating a problem to death thats already broken wont get you any where. It only takes a hit in the wrong place from the HEatsink and damage is done - unrepairable. Its a warranty issue, by fiddling they may say you caused the damage. So if the USB doesnt work with Linux its a hardware problem and we NEED to sent it back? This will tell you if its Software or hardware - but from what you have written I think its hardware ( hope I'm wrong) but please try and let us know the results.
