2007-10-31 09:59:00 | Well its either theyve wired it wrong, but the back ports should work . Coz theyre onboard, the BIOS option is enabled (So, cant be that), or the USB controllers entry has to be deleted . Which you've done . And SP2 has been installed . So, cant be that either . I cant think of anything else u can do, to get the USB ports to work . Is the option for USB in the BIOS on hi-speed?? Have you installed ALL of the updates, besides SP2? I would also look here ( . asus . com/forum/topic . aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5N-E+SLI&board_id=1" target="_blank">vip . asus . com) It looks like you're not the only one having probs with USB .

2007-10-31 18:56:00 | This is the steps we took: Intalled WindowsXP Professional Installed Videocard Drivers Intalled all drivers on the Motherboard disk (There was a USB2.0 driver on the CD, but when we click it, it says its not needed) Installed SP2 This whole time the USB mouse was working. After this we went to plug in my external HDD and it wouldnt be detected, same with the D-Link Wireless USB Hub? We tryed all the suggestions so far, still not working. Its weird how the USB mouse works but other devices dont?

2007-10-31 19:12:00 | Were you plugging this external hdd into this Dlink Hub?? Or did you try the hdd in a USB port by itself as well? Because, not all USB devices like USB hubs. Also whats the PSU / Power supply?? How many watts is it? Because, if the PSU is too low, USB can be affected. So who installed Windows? You or the shop?? If you did, check device manager, for any ?'s if anything has a ? beside it, install the drivers for it. Did you install the motherboard drivers as well?? You should install these once XP / SP2 has been installed. Then the rest of the drivers (Audio/LAN).

2007-10-31 19:29:00 | Do you have something real simple, requires low power to plug into the USB ports to see if that detects, something like a standard USB / Pen Drive, not he Wireless Drive. If so does this detect ? Since its brand new you shouldn't have to do a BIOS flash, not to read low powered USB devices. The board may be faulty, this then HAS to be repaired/replaced under warranty. Also you may want to try the Front USB ports to see if they are working.

2007-10-31 20:20:00 | Why would the mouse work but nothing else? And when the mouse is unplugged and plugged back in windows doesnt reconise it and you have to reboot for it to work :( | Adeane (12918) | |
2007-10-31 20:24:00 | When he got the computer, the HDD wasnt secured properly, and the heatsink had fallen off the CPU during shipping so I had to fix these to things (DONT USE ASCENT TO GET YOUR COMPUTER BUILT). Would the heatsink falling off the CPU and hitting the motherboard and rattleing about during shipping cause some damage to the MOBO? | Adeane (12918) | |
