606400 2007-10-29 22:06:00 About 5 years ago Seagate reduced their 3 year warranty to 1 year then upped it to 5 late 2004. If all their reasons for increasing were valid why did they drop it in the 1st place?

The theory was that they are the most reliable HDDs therefore it didn't need a long warranty.

But of course no-one saw it like that, so they changed it back.

And they are reliable, thats not to say you never have a dead one, just a lot less of them than others.

606401 2007-10-30 21:15:00 let us know what happens and if pconlineshope are helpful. Its always good to chalk another retailer on the 'avoid' list. utopian201 (6245)

And This (www.computerworld.com)

Only thing is, you would have to be in the US to get a claim.

606404 2007-11-03 06:15:00 The webpage says:"Ask this product a question."

So ask them.

Nine people have posted suggestions since this one of mine last Tuesday.
And so far there's no confirmation from Ninjabear that he really has a warranty problem.

He was "just wondering" why the website didn't mention warranties.
So have you asked the retailer, Ninjabear?

The thread has been informative about Seagate.
It's also shown that many people are prepared to pitch in with helpful info. That's good.

What it hasn't done - so far, anyway - is confirm that this is an actual problem, rather than just speculation.

Over to you, Ninjabear...

606406 2007-11-03 06:59:00 They are quite fast and posting things and I recommend their site too for buying harddrive.I didnt search thru heaps of site but after checking around 5-6 websites on pricepy it seems pconlineshop is slightly cheaper probably by $5-$15 from other websites when it comes to buying harddrive.Ok..Maybe other harddrive are cheaper but yea they were quite helpful when I checked out a SATA harddrive instead of IDE.They helped me rectify the purchase within a day after sending them an email and they sent me a harddrive the next day I payed Ninjabear (2948)
606407 2007-11-03 07:01:00 I saw a harddrive like this

73GB Seagate 2.5" Savvio 10K.2,16MB, SAS 3Gb/s,10K

What kinda connection is SAS?

I heard of SATA and IDE and I suppose the speed 10KRPM is faster than RPM by alot?

606408 2007-11-03 07:11:00 I might be wrong, but I think SAS stands for Serial Attatched SCSI. Sherman (9181)

Correct and those drives are usually used in a RAID setup in servers.
