2007-11-03 19:50:00 | Trying to burn with above dvd burner I consistently get an error, "the request could not be performed because of an IO error." and the burn fails. I'm using Nero Version 7.5.13. The disks I am using are Imation DVD +R X8 disks, and I am manually setting the burn speed to 8x. Please can anybody help me? Thank you, John

2007-11-03 21:20:00 | See if this site helps (support.microsoft.com) What else is on the same ide connection as this burner?? Anything else? Altho, normally its better if it stays in DMA mode. What version of Windows is it?

2007-11-03 21:22:00 | What's your history with this burner, have you previously had good results? Have you tried a slower speed? | PaulD (232) | |
2007-11-04 00:55:00 | Speedy Gonzales and PaulD Thank you for your replies. There is a cd burner with the same ide connection - the jumpers are configured correctly - the dvd burner is the primary. The windows version is XP. The success is intermittent. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

2007-11-04 01:07:00 | So the DVD burner is master ther cd slave. Could try a firmware update (dlsvr01.asus.com) Thats if its not 1.13 now If that doesnt work, try disconnecting the cd and do a burn, see what happens. Or Nero may need updating? The Nero site USED to have a list of supported burners, and what version of Nero was required for whatever burner. I've got the same burner here. Also WHAT are you burning, whats the CPU speed and how much ram is installed?

2007-11-04 02:58:00 | Thanks Speedy I have installed the 1.13 firmware, the Nero is Nero StartSmart Essentials which came with the Burner - version 7.5.13 I am burning the Star Wars episode of the Family Guy, some 2.3 GB of avi, run through Ulead MovieFactory 6.0 to produce the audio and video dvd folders. The cpu is the Intel celeron 2.40 GHz with 1.00 Gb of ram.

2007-11-04 05:04:00 | You shouldnt have to use Ulead to convert it. (Unless the plugin for Nerovision isnt installed or activated). Nerovision will convert AVI to DVD format when it burns the file to DVD. You could try this its free (http://www.cdburnerxp.se/) Not too sure if it can load AVI's tho, never used it.
