607883 2007-11-02 20:33:00 Gday.

Should I buy a 7900GT (not sure what memory) second hand from a mate for $150 or buy a new 8600GT 512MB for a little bit more?

I have no idea on graphics cards, but I play a lot of games on my pc. Currently have a 6600.

Thanks.

607884 2007-11-02 22:44:00 7900GT would blow the 8600 out of the water Greven (91)
607885 2007-11-03 00:07:00 How would 2 SLI's 7900GT's compare to a 8800GT??

Just wondering what upgrade path to take.

607886 2007-11-03 00:27:00 2 7900GT's would probably offer similar or slightly less performance when compared with the 8800GT but would also use twice as much power and generate twice as much heat.

You also need to remember that single card solutions are normally cheaper, sell your existing 7900GT on TradeMe and the difference between what you receive for the 7900GT and a 8800GT will likely be less than a second 7900GT.

8800GT FTW

607887 2007-11-03 05:34:00 Buy the 7900GT.

Don't bother with SLi 7900GT. Go for 8800GT.

The only difference between the two series in terms of OS capabilities is the fact that the 8 series has DX10 support, and 7 only DX9. Vista doesn't use DX10 for its graphics interface, and so a 7 series card will do just fine.

And 2x 7900GTs doesn't equal to an 8800GTX in performance. Only 2x 7900GTXs does, I think.

607891 2007-11-04 02:19:00 If you do decide to get an 8800GT, make sure it will fit in your case. They are a massive card. Greven (91)
607892 2007-11-04 19:54:00 Does anyone have any opinions on these two 7900GT cards on trademe (my mate has put his card in another computer now):
