2007-11-02 03:17:00 | The laptop is a decent spec: 2gb DDR2 RAM, Core 2 Duo T5500. It isn't hitting the CPU or RAM hard, but it is quite slow & the hard drive is going flat out for 10 minutes after it has booted. | 607646 | 2007-11-02 03:25:00 | Welcome to the world of Vista. :p That log looks OK to me, although I didn't really study it thoroughly. With 2 gig of RAM, it should be better than that though.

2007-11-02 03:29:00 | Is this a recent install, or new laptop? Vista machines will take a couple of days to settle down while the hard drive is indexed. Go to Control Panel - Classic View - Indexing Options, and see what the status is. Once the indexing is done, it'll be much faster, and you'll have real-time instant search. | somebody (208) | |

Go to Control Panel - Classic View - Indexing Options, and see what the status is. Once the indexing is done, it'll be much faster, and you'll have real-time instant search. You promise? I notice little or no real difference, and considering how often I need to search the overhead is NOT WORTH IT. Indexing of email in outlook actually slows down outlook... and can cause it to crash/hang... so turned that off too. |

2007-11-02 04:02:00 | Get rid of Nod32 or Ez armour, if theyre both AV programs. you dont need both. And defender. And tick these entries then tick fix checked O4 - Global Startup: Bluetooth Manager.lnk = ? O13 - Gopher Prefix: Close browser/s. You dont need this unless youre sharing music O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WMPNSCFG] C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\WMPNSCFG.exe

2007-11-02 04:29:00 | Defender ain't AV, it's anti-spyware... Doesn't Vista have some kind of automatic defragmentation? maybe that's running

2007-11-02 04:30:00 | I didnt say defender was an AV program, its crap anyway. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2007-11-02 05:15:00 | You promise? I notice little or no real difference, and considering how often I need to search the overhead is NOT WORTH IT. Indexing of email in outlook actually slows down outlook... and can cause it to crash/hang... so turned that off too. I can only tell you based on my experience - I've been running Vista + Outlook 2007 since late January. I do use search a lot (particularly searching emails), so to me it's worth it. In terms of hard disk activity, yes, it definitely settles down after a few days depending on how much data you have.

2007-11-02 05:21:00 | Hmm, thats weird cos I never had any HDD activity really after I bought it but then again, I had nothing to index. Take it back to the shop if you're really concerned... | beeswax34 (63) | |
2007-11-02 06:15:00 | I didnt say defender was an AV program, its crap anyway. It's not great for detecting stuff but the version I'm running on my XP is pretty good at monitoring registry changes etc
