607223 2007-11-01 05:18:00 Hi ~ and to all the old-timers here "Hi Again"
Been reading all the hooplah on the Microsoft website about Windows Defender. MS tout it as a "must have"
Did a search on here for the pro's and cons and couldn't find any comments!
So is it worth installing or is it going to give me grief?
Have just done a reformat of XP due to grief :badpc: so not sure if I want another dose of it
Your comments would be very muchly appreciated

607224 2007-11-01 05:46:00 No, get Avast AV and Comodo Firewall, both free and for XP. Forget Windows Defender for XP. beeswax34 (63)
607225 2007-11-01 05:50:00 Windows Defender got a pretty crappy rating in the PC World Mag November Issue.. as I recall. But than again PC World Mag rated Norton AV as the best in one of the monthly mags a while back... :yuck: ronyville (10611)

If it defended itself, that itself would surprise me.

607229 2007-11-01 18:12:00 I downloaded Microsoft's malicious software removal tool and used it to remove a win32 Trojan for a work colleague gary67 (56)
607230 2007-11-01 19:29:00 I had a Vista PC in here the other day, I removed quite a bit of spyware with some other apps - so much for Defender. pctek (84)
607231 2007-11-05 19:02:00 I was not talkng about defender re read my post I mentioned malicious software removal tool, I don't think it's the same gary67 (56)
607232 2007-11-05 23:22:00 Well the start of this thread is about Defender, I think the malicious software removal tool comes with it. I find Defender good as far as managing the start up programs and on one occasion it did actually prevent something nasty loading onto my computer. lakewoodlady (103)
