| 607069 | 2007-10-31 20:15:00 | Hi Guys My daughter has just been given an IBM desktop PC. It came from a large home appliance retailer. I have put Windows on it OK. But the screen resolution is very low. It does not have a graphics card, my version of Everest says that it has onboard graphics by Intel - Xtreme Graphics ! but the screen res is only 640 by 480. And the screen is hard to read as the icons etc are so large and you cannot see the whole Windows desktop even ! If I go to control panel display on the screen slider there is only the 640 by 480 option. What I want to know is can I buy any old (used) PCI graphics card and put it in. It has several spare PCI slots. My daughter does not need a high powered one, just so that she can used WORD etc. Regards Digby |

| 607070 | 2007-10-31 20:29:00 | Ok digby How old is the machine, as most machines even those with onboard graphics should be able to handle better than yep the specs are here (support.intel.com) Get the correct driver as that should help, what version of windows? What version of Extreme Graphics 1 or 2? Onboard graphics are fine for people who just use word This will probably be useful to (support.intel.com) |
