607639 2007-11-03 05:46:00 Just had a look through all the posts on this problem - Just out of interest the Windows XP CD you have, is it a Genuine XP cd, or some sort of Recovery CD.

Being a Laptop they usually come with either a recovery CD or a recovery Partition on the Drive.

607640 2007-11-03 07:56:00 I may be wrong, but AFAIK a recovery CD wouldn't say "windows XP setup cannot find any hard discs" (and shouldn't a recovery CD have the right drivers?? useless recovery disc if it doesn't!) Agent_24 (57)

Yep you are right, but every laptop I have seen has always had either a recovery CD for the Make /model, or a recovery partition.

So if its a Standard XP CD then as we all know it wont have all the right drivers. My acer laptop, has a recovery CD, that loads as normal windows does, but it also has the right Drivers slipstreamed in by acer. The other CD that comes with it is the additional apps.

I was asking because lately there has been a few people trying to install XP with incorrect disc's, and its only after hours of head banging thats discovered.

607642 2007-11-03 09:16:00 so it's like what, a normal XP cd but with customised driverset? that would definitely cause headache... Agent_24 (57)
607643 2007-11-03 09:55:00 How is your BIOS set?
You don't still have sata disabled do you...

Exactly, you boot the CD, you agree to the licenses, both MS's and Acers, type in your Name / company , world location - when required, No product key as its a "Acer provided" built in Key, loads as normal and boots to the finished install, all drivers loaded - for that make and model of the laptop, standard practice for recovery CD's, if its the wrong model wont load.

Then you load in any additional Apps that were supplied from the other CD.
BUT heres the trick - I tried it on a NON Acer PC- got to the same point as this problem - examining HD and didn't go any further - sound the same?

Hence thats why I'm asking - just in case.
Rather ask and have an answer of NO - than spend hours going nowhere.
