Ok well im using another pc atm but my pc is completely wrecked. One day it just wouldnt turn on anymore. So i decided to format the disk with the xp installation, however it said it could not find a hard disk to format. I had a look on the internet and i found out that i needed to disable sata by going into bios and doing so, and then my xp setup would recognise the disk and it worked i think, however when going into the xp setup i go onto the welcome screen where u can press enter to proceed in the setup or r to repair disk. I have tried both options, and in both cases all it does is go to a screen where down the bottom it says examining disk, it does this and just sits there on that screen for hours. I left it on for 24 hours and it was still the same. So i had no idea to do i thought my disk mite be destroyed or something so i got a copy of unix slax which works fine an i can read off my hard drive except it wont let me delete anything and when i go to change permissions for the disk it does not let me change it so i can delete. I just want to format my disk and start over again can someone please help!! it would be very much apreciated!!

607617 2007-11-02 04:08:00 You could try and get the drivers from Here (h10025.www1.hp.com)

I think you're after the Intel SATA AHCI drivers, which are under Operating system enhancements.

I think these are for your system.

You'll need a floppy to extract them to. Then press F6 during the install.

607619 2007-11-02 04:23:00 DON'T Disable SATA (you probably have a SATA drive)

And load the proper drivers from floppy by pressing F6 like Speedy said

Of course it might be easier to fix the problem if your windows not booting than reinstalling, you'll have fun with all the other drivers - not just the SATA ones

607620 2007-11-02 04:27:00 Yes Speedy - I was thinking along the same lines...

Hayesanator, have a look at THIS (xphelpandsupport.mvps.org)

I think you need to re-enable sata in bios too

607621 2007-11-02 05:58:00 ok the problem is theyres no floppy drive, so what i did was put all the drivers onto a usb and pressed f6 with sata enabled and with sata disabled, it failed to work both times... the thing is with sata enabled the windows xp setup cannot detect any hard disks, but when it is disabled it just says examining. hayesanator (12993)
607622 2007-11-02 06:08:00 is it possible to boot windows off a flash drive so that i can put the sata drivers on a cd? im not sure if it will find them on the cd either though. hayesanator (12993)
607623 2007-11-02 06:22:00 Windows XP is designed to look for them on a floppy and that's it. AFAIK it doesn't look anywhere else (except for the windows CD)'

if you use nlite or other method you can create a copy of your windows CD that has the drivers slipstreamed into it, which will also work.

Again it might be better/easier just to fix the original problem

607624 2007-11-02 06:53:00 the thing is i dont know wat the original problem is or how to fix it... so using an external floppy drive through usb wont work? hayesanator (12993)
607625 2007-11-02 07:08:00 the thing is i dont know wat the original problem is or how to fix it... so using an external floppy drive through usb wont work?

If you have an external floppy drive, go to This Site here (h10025.www1.hp.com) it tells you exactly what you need to do, and booting from a USB floppy drive with the SATA drivers is exactly what you need to do.

This is a laptop isn't it ?
