608966 2007-11-06 23:33:00 My husband's laptop has the cursor frozen. He has unplugged and turned back on, but still frozen. Has control/alt/del & task manager comes up, he can use the arrow keys, but cannot get anything to shut down so he can reboot. Any suggestions? ljcsns (13005)
608967 2007-11-06 23:54:00 Get hijackthis in my sig below. Put it in its own folder.

Install it run it click on scan the system and save a log.

Post the log here somehow.

Has he scanned for viruses etc?

Depending on what version of Windows (if this is Windows), boot into safe mode.

Is he having this prob with the touchpad (if its got one) or a mouse?

If mouse is it PS/2 or USB?? If its got PS/2.

608968 2007-11-07 01:43:00 Just disconnect from AC power and pull the battery out (after saving all your data!) beeswax34 (63)
608969 2007-11-07 02:25:00 If you hold the start switch in the ON position while you count 5 most laptops will power off, mains power or battery dosent make any difference.

608971 2007-11-07 02:42:00 Well it may or may NOT work in safe mode.

Only way to find out is to try it.

608972 2007-11-07 02:52:00 is he using a usb mouse or the touchpad?
if using touch pad..

are there any hardware keys or function key combination that turns that touchpad off?..and is it turned off by any chance?

and if he's using usb mouse, is the cursor frozen with both the touchpad and the mouse?

..wow I think I just more questions than you did :p
