2007-11-05 20:21:00 | Hi Team My son has just discovered Bebo (yeah yeah, he's just turned 18 so he's a late developer, it will be girls next) and at present all of his incoming mail must pass through my computer because I haven't yet resolved my problem in getting Outlook 2000 to send from his machine. Social hazards aside, are there any spyware/malware security issues I should be aware of? I have several Bebo related emails sitting in Mailwasher at present and I have to decide whether to download or delete. You have probably guessed, I am even more ignorant of Bebo et al than he is/was. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2007-11-05 20:41:00 | The security issue here is yourself I think. Your son must be very tolerant to allow all his emails to be viewed by his father. He could setup OE or Thunderbird to send mail with, why you persevere with Outlook 2000 is a mystery, why use a 7 year old program when there are modern updated email programs to use. If I was him I would setup a gmail address and cut you out of the loop, he is 18 years old after all or is he not very computer literate and does not know all the alternatives available.

2007-11-05 20:59:00 | Social hazards aside, are there any spyware/malware security issues I should be aware of?No, but you probably don't want them running through your inbox - bebo emails can be rather high-traffic (i.e. lots of them); I'd recommend either setting him up with a GMail account for this purpose or implementing some automatic filters within Outlook. | Erayd (23) | |
2007-11-05 21:09:00 | Your son must be very tolerant to allow all his emails to be viewed by his father . I don't, I just note that they are present in mailwasher, download them and he opens and reads when he gets home . In our family we have mutual trust and respect . Why you persevere with Outlook 2000 is a mystery, why use a 7 year old program when there are modern updated email programs to use . If it ain't broke, don't fix it . Outlook 2000 is 100% reliable for me, and apart from the sending issue from two of our five computers, the only problems I ever have are of my own making and are easily fixed . i . e it occasionally locks up if I accidentally open too many iterations . If I close all but one then leave it alone for 10 minutes it all comes right . My son is a jazz musician and sportsman, and lives for music and sport . For him computers are simply tools but he is fully literate in the operational sense and in the use of programs . He can teach me thing or two in that area, but he has zero interest in games and doesn't give a toss what goes on behind the keyboard and screen so I look after all of that . Horses for courses . Now, having disposed of your opinions, do you have any useful comment in relation to my actual question? Cheers Billy 8-{)

Oh no, I persist with Windows 2000 . Are you gonna scold me too :o I mistrust sites like Bebo (another social networking site) |
