608200 2007-11-04 03:17:00 Recently Firefox and Internet Explorer have been slower than usual. Downloads are fine but webpages have really been hit.

What could possibly be causing this?

Sometimes pages take a long time to load, sometimes not at all. If I repeatedly refresh a page, it loads fine. I diagnose my connection and it confirms theres a problem but can't be solved automatically.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate and have max download broadband from Orcon.

When I first ran CHKDSK, computer ran fine and booted up perfectly.

After that, I moved onto this problem and thinking it was my wireless internet, I tried installing new drivers for my D-Link Wireless Adaptor but they weren't recognised by Vista. So I reinstalled the original drivers, upon reboot, my pc blue screened again!

So I ran CHKDSK again but now computers not crashing but internets still just as bad.

My antivirus is Kaspersky with Firewall turned on. Fasterfox is activated to 'Turbo' on firefox.

608203 2007-11-04 06:17:00 Did u check the Dlink site, to see if there were any Vista drivers? Speedy Gonzales (78)
608204 2007-11-04 06:22:00 From other Forums it appears that Kaspersky may be the cause with its port scanning and web page inspections.

Try turning off Kaspersky for a moment and see if a web page loads faster if it does then thats the problem.

This Forum Here at this site (forum.notebookreview.com) dscribes the same problem you are having, read the whole posts and hopefully the fix will also work. Post 9 esp.

Or disable the section in the scanner that applies to web pages - but this defeats the purpose of the AV.

Please let us know how you get on.

NOD32 - if you look through the many posts relating to "what is the Best" Nod 32, while not free is reccommend. That question was asked yesterday as well, in This Post (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) Some of the Free ones simply dont work as well, different results by different people. For an example take a look at my post #7, theres a link in it to a result called Nod32 - "See for yourself" - enough said ;)

608207 2007-11-04 08:16:00 AVG is good for a free antivirus :) stu161204 (123)
608208 2007-11-04 08:30:00 So is Avast Home AV and its Free! beeswax34 (63)
608209 2007-11-04 08:31:00 AVG is good for a free antivirus :) Misses lots as well in some tests. Take a look in the link I provied above and you will see how many it missed that Nod32 found. Today on another PC, AVG missed 27 - Nod Found them though.

If you want Free Avast is better.
