608907 2007-11-06 20:31:00 Whos the best in Dunedin? My friend is need need of her works PC to be set up properly with MYOB and avrious other bits. The current MYOB PC is a Win98 thing thats on the point of death - major system errors etc, she can't even back it up.

Need someone good to retrieve its info and set up the new one (Win XP) and transfer it all across.

They have a new version of MYOB but it needs the old data moved too.

608908 2007-11-06 20:44:00 pctek I use MYOB 8 and i never need to reinstall, I just have it installed on D drive. If I format C and reinstall I just drag a shortcut to the desktop and it works from there. Maybe newer versions require a full install.

Newer versions can import the old .dat files but not sure how old it has to be before it is not compatible.

My cousin has his own computer business in Mosgiel can can fix/build computers but I would not trust him with my computer:-)

608909 2007-11-06 21:09:00 The easiest way to move a MYOB data file is to backup the file and move the backup.
From there you restore the backup into the software.
File /
Restore/
Point the software to the backup folder and it will uncompress it and save it to the location you specify.

If your using a new version of MYOB please post the new and old version numbers

608910 2007-11-06 21:19:00 Look guys.
Its like this.
Current PC = old as the hills, about to totally crap itself. NOT POSSIBLE to backup.

Running very, very, old version of MYOB.

New PC has Win XP on it and thats it.
New MYOB purchased but not installed.

They need the data off the almost dead PC, its mission critical.

This is beyond my friends ability nor should she have to, they are flat out trying to cope with new orders and stuff and need this fixed and sorted preferably over a weekend.

Its a long story but the idiot that supplied the new PC who should have done all this walked out on them. Now things have progressed to being a complete SNAFU.

I just want to recommend someone good to them before they hire yet another idiot.

608911 2007-11-06 21:25:00 If they can't do a backup which is the prefered method they need to move the entire data folder across

Copy the data folder to the new machine and the new installation of MYOB will pick up the fact its a older file when you first open it, then it will update the file for use in the new version.

Depending on the version your updating from you might need one of these upgraders before you can use it file in the new system

If you are using Bestbooks, please email a backup of your data to support@myob.co.nz and we will upgrade it for you. Please provide us with your serial number.

For use with MYOB 8 , Premier 1.1 data first use : ftp://ftp.myob.co.nz/resources/Plus3Upg.exe
then use: ftp://ftp.myob.co.nz/resources/Plus6Upg.exe

For use with FirstAccounts, MYOB 9, Plus 3 data use ftp://ftp.myob.co.nz/resources/Plus6Upg.exe

Data from Accounting 10,12,14, Plus 4, 6,14, 15 Premier 8, 9 can be upgraded directly into the relevant 2007 version.

608912 2007-11-06 23:07:00 I asked if anyone could recommend a tech in Dunedin.
I don't need lessons in moving MYOB files.

I'm not doing it.
They are not doing it either.
They want a computer repair firm.

I don't know who is good, bad or mediocre. Which is whyt I thought I'd ask here.

And in any case its not nay of those versions, when I say its OLD I mean pre-historic. Its from before they even called it MYOB. I know it can be done, but its beyond their ability. Nor do they have time for lessons.

They just want a tech.

608913 2007-11-06 23:29:00 I can't recommend anyone but I can show you how to find the list of AP's in the area

AP's undergo testing and certification from MYOB so are capable of doing what you ask, they are consultants and charge accordingly

www.myob.co.nz

click partners link in the menu bar on the top
middle of the page click find a MYOB Approved Partner
choose your product (leave keyword blank)
Choose location.
