2007-11-05 19:05:00 | Our daughter who lives in Hongkong has sent the following email requesting help. am trying to sync my pocket pc that is about 5 years old to my laptop to use for work. With the pocket pc there is an installation disc for outlook 2000 (and also says 'pocketpc 2002 prem w/outlook 2000' on it). When I try to install I get an error message - error 1402. Set up cannot open the registry key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURR ENTVERSION\RUN\OPTIONALCOMPONENTS\IMAIL She is using XP SP2 on her laptop - don't know what on her Pocket PC. She has looked on the internet for an answer to her problem but can't find the answer. Can anyone help please?

2007-11-05 23:57:00 | Make sure she has Active Sync 4.5 or newer (or even a 4.6 beta if there is one) | beeswax34 (63) | |
2007-11-06 06:42:00 | Thanks for your replies PCTEK and Beeswax. I have emailed our daughter with your suggestions, plus a link to PC World forum - and await her reply. | Oldferix (5581) | |
2007-11-08 02:27:00 | Our daughter has emailed back : Thanks - no idea still Have downloaded up to date software, but that is not the problem. Can't do the other suggestions as it is for ME or before, and I can't follow the prompts they say as they are not available. I can't update my itunes either, with a similar error - that I need to verify with the administrator to amend anything - but I am the administrator ... Very confusing - and I know it'll be something really easy also! Has anyone any other suggestions please?

2007-11-08 02:50:00 | 5 years is a long time in technology, she might want to update her little pocket PC with something that is newer and much easier to use. I would imagine that she could pick up a Blackberry, eMate, HP iPaq, RIM or iPhone for $299 $399 US (depending on brand) which would save her a LOT of frustration. Just a thought. Did she originally have WinME when she bought the pocket PC?

2007-11-08 06:13:00 | Thanks Speedy and Winmacguy, I have sent both options to her and will let you know if she has been able to solve the problem. I agree that a new PDA would be MUCH easier - but we will see! | Oldferix (5581) | |
