609387 2007-11-08 07:35:00 I had this problem at work but it seemed to be a fried mainboard.

With my new computer - the device manager says that everything is fine and all the devices are working alright - I can adjust the volume controls, even the soundmax software detects a the plugs going into the jacks on the back of the mother board but no sound comes out.

Have tried amplifed stereo speakers and headphone and nothing works. There is no reason why the sound shouldn't be working ...

Have tried reinstalling the drivers and software and nothing is muted - that I can tell. I am using a Asus P5K Premium mb.

Any ideas?

609388 2007-11-08 07:49:00 Three Questions please.

Are you using Onboard Audio or a PCI Sound Card (had a problem like this the other day and it took ages before we found out the person had a sond card installed) ?
Is this High Def Audio, indicated normally by a orange speaker in the task bar or Standard AC97 usually a black speaker ?
And do you have the speakers set up on the Mother Board header as Hi Def or AC.

609390 2007-11-08 08:05:00 If its wired up wrong it will kill the audio, Heres the Audio Connectors (www.imagef1.net.nz) I've had two Asus Boards, and several Gigabyte with the same problems, simple and easy mistake to make.

Also make sure the setting in the BIOS are set correctly, look on page 94 of your manual at These settings (www.imagef1.net.nz)

609393 2007-11-08 08:39:00 and yes I have it in the right plug on the back
 I was gonna Ask - it does happen sometimes.

Out of Interest - Is the OS XP or Vista ?

I had this problem with a Gigabyte board / Vista till I downloaded the latest Vista drivers.

Double click on the Speaker in the task bar, open the Audio I/O tab and double check the settings there. This Picture (www.imagef1.net.nz) Actually relates to getting the Front Audio going, just work through the tabs & check to see all the items "look right" and every things plugged in the right place and nothing muted any where.

Did you also try the patch that SolMiester Gave.

609394 2007-11-08 08:41:00 That hot fix is only av if you contact the support centre - you can't just download it?!?

The problem as well is that I did have it work and now it doesn't

609395 2007-11-08 08:57:00 Wrong Program - I'm using SoundMax =\ Pourhommenz (104)
609396 2007-11-08 10:32:00 Worked it out lol

Updated the BIOS and the SoundMax software and then when I went back into the software it said that if I want to used the back panel for only 2.1 speakers, it had to swap the number of channels and after that it worked strait away.

Sorry guys, dumb mistake but it didn't do that with the older version
