609755 2007-11-09 06:22:00 I built this machine in Brisbane while on holiday 3 years back on a very limited budget and it's now time for an upgrade, or at least a replacement of some components.
This is what my money got me:

Albatron KM400A Pro motherboard w. onboard graphics
AMD Sempron 2Ghz CPU
Maxtor 160gb HDD
Sony DVD RW DW-D22A
512mb DDR400? (added another 512mb, 64mb used for graphics)

Within the last year ive been suffering in terms of performance, because I do quite a bit graphics work in photoshop and browsing of flash sites, CPU usage and ram has gone way up.

So, what specs do I look for when buying:

Graphics card with good perfomance for graphic design and flash work? I don't do gaming.
CPU (cache size, frequency etc.)

RAM
320gb+ Hard drive (SATA, SATAII, buffer)
Motherboard.I'm not dim when it comes to compputers but I'd appreciate some guidance for a gruntier system that can do the jobs i need done! :)
BTW. Still on a tight budget ;)

609756 2007-11-09 19:55:00 Depends what you do with Photoshop. My father has no problems using photoshop with 512mb DDR400 and a FX5200 graphics card.

If you do serious work in graphics then the Matrox line of cards are the ones to look at.

Motherboard can take a max of 1024mb per slot. Two Slots.
What should I look for? DDR2?

When viewing DVDs, i get blue and red spots showing up randomly and CPU goes way up on sites with Flash.

609759 2007-11-09 20:32:00 Get a better mobo and CPU. And something without onboard video.

Only thing is you'll have to replace the ram. If you want DDR2 ram.

That mobo doesnt support DDR2.
