610575 2007-11-11 20:54:00 Hi all, I have searched high and low, but cannot find a way of doing this without office or the works suite. I have a PC with a new install of XP on it, and the latest version of Open Office installed. It had the works suite installed on it before, and has .wps files littered all over it. The owner of the PC cannot find the works discs, and does not have/won't buy MS Office. Is there any way of opening .wps files in Open Office, or any converters. Preferably something that doesn't involve me changing each file individually on My PC and then copying them back to his.. :p theres hundreds of files there.

Any help would be much appreciated.

TIA :cool:

610576 2007-11-11 21:20:00 From the Wiki (wiki.services.openoffice.org)

How can I open Microsoft Works wordprocessor files (.wps)?

The libwps (http://libwps.sourceforge.net/) library was designed to allow OpenOffice.org, KWord, Abiword, and similar programs to import Microsoft Word wordprocessor documents.

Though available since early 2007, the mainstream OpenOffice.org has not incorporated the code (issue #8938). Here are some options:

* Use any of these OpenOffice.org variants which include libwps: NeoOffice, Ubuntu, Debian (?), or www.go-ooo.org
* Use the command-line libwps wps2html converter.
* If you have Microsoft Works, open the .wps in Microsoft Works and resave as .rtf.
* If you have Microsoft Word, use Microsoft's Works to Word converter. Then, save as .doc.

610577 2007-11-11 22:28:00 Dont Know if this will work, But you can download the free Works File Converter (www.microsoft.com) from MS, and save as a word Document, ( I think it does this) then Use Open office to open that. Or if its read & Print only you want, down load the free Word Viewer (www.microsoft.com)

I just read that the word Viewer will open / read and print works .wps files also.
