| 610032 | 2007-11-10 03:21:00 | What is the story with pic reduction,I thought ir reduced pixels,but I see we get small picture being sent,area wise. I have just received a pic from friend and get this silly pic about the size of a postage stamp. Is it not possible to reduce size without the postage stamp effect? |

Depends on how much they reduced the image by in relation to the original file size. Also depends on whether they were sending you an image via dial up and whether they knew what they were doing in the first place. If they did it properly it should only be a bit smaller than the original. |

The size of the file is proportional to its resolution i.e. how many pixels... the more pixels the bigger the size of the file and the higher the quality clarity. I use ACDSee Photo Manage 9 to resize my pics, it's quite handy. Cheers |

I have a 1 gig camera and a 5 gig camera,if I take a pic with each and send it without altering, they arrive the same size area wise. What I would like to do is send reduced 5 giger so that it arrives area wise as the one giger. |

| 610039 | 2007-11-10 06:49:00 | yes well .....if you reduce a 5mb pic to the same file size as a 1mb pic the you shouldn't lose 'size' at all just quality........and that wont be too noticeable unless you get pretty radical......... one of the easiest ways to reduce file size yet retain the picture size is to simply open it in mspaint and then 'save as' and make sure the file type is .jpg (even if it was a jpg to start with) you'll notice the file size should be smaller but the pic will remain the same viewable size.....theres plenty of other programs that do the same thing it's called 'resampling'...... |

| 610041 | 2007-11-10 08:41:00 | I use Irfanview for all image editing, it is free and has an amazing range of image editing features. For resizing you can specify the actual image size you want in cm H/W, and at the same time you can independently set the dpi. This gives maximum control over both file and image sizes. Add the plug-ins and it will run just about any movie format you can think of, including FLV, and to top it all, it has a tiny footprint, has no advertising and seems to be bug free. For me the best feature and the one I use the most is the image enhacing tools. It will take a virtually black photo off Trade Me and adjust the exposure so that you can actually see what they are selling. TM aside, it is also useful for recovering bad snaps from your own camera, especially those where the lighting was less than optimal! Cheers Billy 8-{) |
