610076 2007-11-11 09:29:00 Have tried VCL, Picasa2, windows photo gallery and they all open the movie okay then play for a few seconds then sometimes stop as if it is buffering then starts again for a few secs then stop etc. sometimes freeze the pc altogether The movies play ok straight into the tv from the camers ,canon G7,but the pc looks as if it isnt up to the job which is a bit of a joke given the specs. This also is with movies I have had for years (on an external drive) and have played okay on my old pc

First of all, I dont think its the specs at all! If yours can't play them, then the rest of us are up a tree

I don't think its Vista either but definitely a software issue somewhere. Maybe bad codecs or something...

610078 2007-11-11 16:23:00 I had this problem..seemed to be a memory thing..but accidentally I shut down COMODO BOClean and WOW! It all started to work as normal again.

My boot time and shut down returned to normal too.....this is just my condition and it may not be your problem...but now I can play almost anything in any player again.

610079 2007-11-12 07:56:00 okay, I have no problem at all playing anything else from anywhere it is only my movies taken with my compact camera which stop and go. Older movies taken with an earlier camera which were ok with xp have the same problem bob.m (13015)
610080 2007-11-12 09:43:00 bad or missing codec/old video drivers? Agent_24 (57)

This part about "older vs newer" vids is interesting.

Do you happen to have WMP11 installed?

There may be some digital rights assignments that are getting in the way.

IF the older things were before WMP11, then you might want to get rid of WMP11 to see if they work...but don't bet that you can do much about it as there are some strange things that v11 does to media files.

610082 2007-11-12 20:27:00 Hi Bob

Have you tried these files on a different computer? (do you still have your old computer)

Have you tried running G-spot (www.divx-digest.com) over the troublesome file to ensure you have the correct codecs installed, not all AVIs are created equally
