2007-11-14 22:07:00 | I have been presented with a MP4 Player to fix. I know it's not a pc topic but can't find any joy on the appropriate web sites. It's a 2GB Nano 1st gen copy. Was coming up with a disc error & would not comunicate with a pc, comming up only as a unformated drive. I formated the drive with fat now it comes up as a usable drive & can be written to. Before I formated it, the fm radio, games etc & menu still worked ok so I was able to note down the firmware version, dates etc from the settings menu. I havent been able to find the correct firmware for it. It came with the standard utility mini disc. I,ve opened the case & coppied down every detail visable but are unable to exactly find it's pedigree. Ive tryed several firmware versions that should bring some life back to it, but it still stays as blue screen. Any ideas

If Itunes manages to restore it, it'll detect if it needs updating. And give u the option to update it. But if it does manage to restore it, you'll have to re-download the firmware anyway. From within Itunes. |

2007-11-15 00:02:00 | AFAIK, The Nano is an Ipod. So it should work. Thats what Itunes is for (Ipods). As shown here (docs.info.apple.com) Itunes, if its an Ipod will detect if there's an update (like it did for me last night). So I updated it. And if you restore whatever Ipod, it'll re-download and re-install the firmware for it. And you'll have to put whatever back on it. I dont know what he means by copy.

2007-11-15 07:58:00 | Yes it is a clone, copy, knockoff or whatever you want to call it. But I would still like to make it usable for the owner. I have placed a similar post on a mp3/mp4 forum & find other people with similar probs & are still hopefull of a solution. There must be thousands of them out there. I just thought there might have been someone here that had sorted a similar problem. I initialy started with xp but are now working with vista as the lastest MP3 utility software is compatable. The owner wants to return it to the supplier, but may not get a favorable responce in its present state.

2007-11-15 08:04:00 | Well only thing u can try is what I posted. Install Itunes, see if it can restore it. If not, there's not much you can do about it. What kind of connection has it got if its got any?

2007-11-15 09:17:00 | Thanks Speedy, iTunes only seems to work with iPods. Conection is with usb but has smaller mini plug. Normally you just copy files to it like a flash drive, dont need any software. My daughter has one & it seems to go allright.
