611219 2007-11-13 18:19:00 I've been running into really strange problems with my usb ports... nothing i plug in works, I've tried plugging in several keyboards, jump drives, pen tablets, etc and the comp doesn't even recognize that something has been plugged in. First I thought it was just some bug and I updated my drivers but alas no solution. The weirdest thing is that I can plug in my usb mouse and it works fine!

Can't even boot entirely because the only keyboard(s) I have is usb...

611220 2007-11-13 18:34:00 If SP1 or 2 is installed, delete the USB controllers entry in device manager and reboot.

If theyre not installed, install one of them.

611222 2007-11-13 18:42:00 can you get into the bios, some pcs need usb keyboards to be enabled in there beama (111)
611223 2007-11-13 18:42:00 Try this one - it has worked before! Unplug the power cord from the PC and leave it overnight then retry in the morning. linw (53)
611224 2007-11-13 18:44:00 Have you tried all USB ports? Whats the brand/model of the mobo

Did u build it, or buy it as a system?

Cant be the drivers, if it doesnt work, outside of windows.

Whats USB 2 on, in the BIOS?? Normal or Hi-speed?

Use a PS2 keyboard (buy beg or steal one)
If you have USB ports on the front of the PC, unplug THAT cable.

611226 2007-11-13 19:08:00 I built it myself, has an asus p5n-e sli mobo installed.

Well fortunately we have progress! The keyboard posts and all seems to run fine until I get to the welcome screen of windows, and then the keyboard stops responding. I looked through the bios and the only usb option I have is to enable/disable the controller. I'm afraid to disable it because with them disabled I have no keyboard.

Edit: The funny thing is that the only usb ports that seem to respond to anything are the ones in the front. The onboard ones don't do anything. I'm living in a dorm in college so finding a ps2 keyboard has so far been impossible, but I guess I don't have another choice.

611227 2007-11-13 19:13:00 Did u install EVERYTHING in the way of drivers??

Try safe mode, can you get into that?

As Steve said, try a PS/2 kb.

Youre not using a Razer copperhead USB mouse are you? Whatever this is.

It looks like if the latest version of the BIOS isnt installed this mouse can freeze the system.

You're not the only one with this prob (vip.asus.com)

And another post (vip.asus.com)
