2007-11-17 21:30:00 You may have been using it for a year. Has it ever been updated tho??

If there have been any updates?

2007-11-18 01:45:00 I usually burn at 2x or 4x, CDs at 4x. It can read all discs fine, CD or DVD, it just doesn't recognise empty DVD-Rs, it thinks they're empty DVD-ROMs so theres no point changing the write speed if it wont even begin. I've tried 2 different media, neither work. Even Alcohol thinks it's a DVD-ROM.

Yes I've updated it, all the details are in the first post.

2007-11-18 01:54:00 Cant think of anything else. Replace it. Theyre cheap now. Speedy Gonzales (78)
2007-11-19 06:36:00 Try a firmware update, may assist. Either that or I'd put it down to a failing laser :( Chilling_Silence (9)
2007-11-19 06:43:00 I tried that a few times. It reads discs fine, the laser should be fine.. Vicx (11114)
2007-11-19 06:46:00 I had the same issues you described when my Optowrite burner died.. first it couldnt write to DVDs.. then it couldnt write to CDs... and yeah... Chilling_Silence (9)
2007-11-19 08:05:00 it was that bastard alcohol. As soon as I uninstalled it, my DVD-ROMs turned to DVD-Rs, without even restarting! I don't know what caused this, because I've been using both programs fine for a year. Anyway at least I've learned something from this. I don't know if I can live without alcohol though. Vicx (11114)
2007-11-19 08:13:00 There you go, I was right. Speedy Gonzales (78)
2007-11-19 08:53:00 yea I didn't think it could be alcohol after all that time.. Vicx (11114)
2007-11-19 10:21:00 You have Auto-Update enabled by any chance in Alcohol? I think its turned on by default... Chilling_Silence (9)
