611910 2007-11-16 02:33:00 I bought 5 Imation DVD-RW about a month ago and have been using all 5. Using at least one about every 2 - 3 days. Each time I Re-Write them I always make sure the "continue multisession disc" box is ticked in nero.

Bu yesterday I went to Re-Write some stuff and it wouldn't let me. It won't let me erase the disc either. So I went and checked and the discs are being recognised as DVD-ROM. All 5 of them...

Is there just a settings or something that needs changing? This is really frustrating because I need to burn something and ran out of normal DVD's. Sigh.

By the way my DVD Writer is an ASUS DRW-1612BL

Any ideas guys?

Thanks in advance.

611911 2007-11-16 03:11:00 A suggestion or two-
If you have used your RWs several times they could be unable to do further re-writes. I have had experience of this brand 'pack a sad' after just a couple of uses.
Two possible things, the dye is not handling multiple use, or there could be surface scratching or finger marks.
First I would try another RW disk that has not been reused and see if it works; if it does not it might be quickest to re-install Nero. There is a lot of hate mail for Nero but I have used it successfully in the various versions for several years.

After that, there are various possibilities! The unit might be at fault.

611912 2007-11-16 03:13:00 there are no settings to enable re-write mode, most likely the discs are faulty. try a different brand. sony i suggest MaXimus (13013)
611913 2007-11-16 04:37:00 I tried a fresh RW from the same pack and the exact same thing happened. It's not them stuffing up after a few uses.

Could it be a program fault not the actual DVDs?

611914 2007-11-16 05:00:00 From experience with Imation DVD-RW I'd say the disks are at fault that a fair few fail on me and therefore don't use them anymore

1. Try burning data to a different brand of disk.

If that doesn't help:

2. Try burning stuff to a new disk using Windows itself not Nero, if that works it's probably Nero.

If that doesn't help:

3. Try burning something to disk from a linux live CD to rule out windows.

If that doesn't help:

4. Replace the DVD Writer

611915 2007-11-16 05:07:00 Or dont use RW blanks.

Or DVDRW if youre only using Nero's data option. Use CDR's.

Multisession still works.

611916 2007-11-16 05:19:00 Ok i'll get some different branded ones and let you know. I thought imation was one of the best brands? What about verbatim are they good? I bought a 50 pack of them a while ago and they all worked perfect.

What are the 'good' brands?
Fishy (10540)
611917 2007-11-16 05:28:00 Verbatim are reasonably good in my opinion.

Check out this thread for others ideas on disks:

Starts off about burners but goes on to disks!

611918 2007-11-16 06:37:00 From Personal and Business experiance the RW disks are rubbish - ANY brand .

The failure rate is high and I have had many customers, who have writing problems and I'd go as far as saying 99% are using RW CD's or DVD's . Put in a standard CD/DVD works perfectly .

If you have a DVD RW thats not working drop in a standard -R or + R and see if that works - if it does - its the RW disk .
